  1. I love the comments about it being the manufacturers fault when bits get knocked off of a machine through misuse/abuse. The mushrooms are protected by a steel cover from small snags etc, so how are you smacking them off? Do you blame Ford when you knock the Transit door mirrors off on parked cars? Do you blame Toyota when the HiLux slides into that snowy ditch? The red safety bar is a critical component on any woodchipper - so why would you jeopardise your working day by rendering the machine unusable. For the record - I was looking at other makes in a Network Rail yard to see that the knee bar didn't work on one make as it had been bent and on another make, it did not locate the spool in the "Stop" position because it wasn't adjusted properly and neither make complied with the regs as set down by the HSE because they required too much force to use them.
  2. GreenMech have long been at the forefront of a range of British built wood chippers and green waste shredders. Continued expansion has seen the company recently appoint a Technical Support Manager in the form of Spencer Southall, a well-known face within the ground care and arboriculture industry. Spencer has clocked up over 25 years’ experience since starting out as a horticultural engineering apprentice with Midland Shires Farmers. That experience moved on to encompass the management of their Evesham garden machinery workshop and then on to a number of manufacturers including - Etesia, Farm & Garden Machinery, Stihl, Sanli and Countax. Jonathan Turner, GreenMech’s Managing Director, had this to say on the appointment, “Spencer will major on adding strength to our aftersales and technical support departments. His previous roles in Sales, Technical services, Customer support and Warehousing make him the ideal person to help us support our dealer channel and customers at home and abroad.” Spencer was equally as enthusiastic, “I’m very pleased to be joining GreenMech. They are a market leader and their customers expect a level of customer support and back up to match – it will be my job to maintain that.”
  3. Phone me, Phone Big Al, Phone Karl Bak from Orange if you have issues - part if our job is to resolve issues. If you think a tweek on the settings in the control box is required, then phone Mac or Jason and ask.
  4. Global Sales up in Brum have done a load like that - usually machines that have been traded in as the actual labour costs in the strip down and then re-assembly can be a major cost. Why not strip it yourselves and get it blasted/coated locally and re-manufacture it yourselves over a weekend for fits and giggles? Chuck some new bearings, fans and bushes in her and jobsagoodun!
  5. All good questions to ask too. What is your woodchip quality like? What model is it? Is the "No stress" device working as it should? Have you rang GreenMech service and asked Mac or Jason for advice? Whereabouits are you?
  6. Very valid point too Steve.
  7. We put an EC150TMP/Hydro together for Avant. We did one on a Boxer as well. Send me a pm with an email and I'll get some stuff sorted!
  8. Mac and Jason are the font of all knowledge, the giver of all that is wise, saviours of the broken chipper. Yes, they work for GreenMech.
  9. I asked a simikar question over driver cpc. I still get conflicting answers too. One lobby says "not needed as driving is not your work, and your vehicle is less than 3500kgs even though combined mass is more". The other group says that as "a tacho is fitted, you do need to complete the driver cpc!". Right confused.......
  10. Phone Mac or Jason in the morning. 01789 400044 and follow the instructions.

    Grillo Cultivator

I used to use a Howard Rotovator in my youth for doing my Boss's field. A hell of a lot easier than digging a large plot over. I see the size of the veg patch at my girlfriends parent's and think "When they ask me to do that - I'll invest in a two wheel tractor and cut n collect the grass and turn that in a few times pre-season to improve the clay ground a tad! Thanks for sharing - post a picture of your wonky ploughing too.

  15. I was looking at buying my first in the late 80's after years of carrying brash about the East Midlands and huge bonfires in the yard or on site. The cost in those days was a very big issue for a struggling company so it was early 90's before I took the plunge with my first. Back then, Vermeer, The Mighty Rivett Chipper (Bandit), Turner 90 (Gandini), QuickChip (TS), Premier (Schiesling) and Arboreater were the machines that were freely available and mainstream. Other makes also included Dosko, Morbark, Jensen, Exenco and I even got an Asplundh brochure but don't recall seeing the machine. GreenMech started in 93 although they had been going for 30 years previously under the Turner name and rebadging Gandini. Timberwolf were starting up as well and the machines were becoming generally more available and commonplace. Some makes have stopped being imported as changes to the HSE spec make conversion expensive and, to be honest, the market place didn't really like them so things became financially unviable. A 6" QuickChip took my eye but was close on £7k more than a budget Arboreater. Michael Dalrymple delivered it at a cost of £12k, complete with spare blades and a quick talk on how to change the blades!
  16. Samsung 7" tablet starts to recharge, shows one battery section then screen goes blank! Is it hoosed and time to get a new thing? Is there a way of doing a "factory reset" to see if it can survive? What replacement would you recommend if I have to do that? (would go for 10" screen this time).
  17. One of the GreenMech rep's express had the Prodrive button, the driver said it was good towing a lump uphill!

    Kohler

Am I right in thinking that any Lombardini stockist are the Kohler people?
  19. Valves seem to go up and down the same amount and the valve springs etc seem to be in order. It smells like petrol and isnt oily like diesel. if it was a safety switch, there wouldn't be a spark. Fuel filter cleaned, hoses checked. Choke works. Occasional clunck from solenoid under tank and engine will not turn or turns slowly for maybe one cycle (as if battery weak or bad earth).
  20. The grief goes on! Took carb off, solenoid works and tube got a blow through. Valves appear to go up and down in the right sequence. Spark plug was wet and had a decent enough spark. Is there a timing belt? How is the camshaft driven? It is almost as if the timing was out! Any clues? The grass takes a lot of cutting with a walk behind!
  21. Rent one as and when needed or see about acquiring a rich benefactor! Contact Cambrian Plant in Cardiff....
  22. Surely not!?! Ian, you are a man of the world with a modicum of common sense - would you recommend a Landforce to the OP? What do you base your findings on? Chip dinner week after next?
  23. Now Ian, my recommendation would of course be GreenMech. The superior, British built machine!
  24. Id choose a main stream make that will have parts available, service back up from the supplier and something that would be worth more than its weight later on! Sorry to those that have them but, avoid it if you can.
  25. Log? Yes you do need to keep a comprehensive log if a vehicle is fitted with a tacho. I got a fine to prove that one!!!
