There you go Bob. 1938 Austin 16 ("Sweet 16"). All steel (and filler) body, original chassis which has been boxed and strengthened. Narrowed Transit "I" beam front with Ford discs and Volvo shocks on slipper springs. Rear is Jaguar Mark 10 IRS with "quick change" cover, running 295 width tyres. Rover V8 with tubular stainless manifolds and exhausts, Offenhauser 360 inlet with Holley 390cfm carb with a street cam which should give about 220hp(in my dreams!) - fire by Mallory power. Original wheel arches have had the lip lowered to suit tyres and rears have been extended by 4". Fuel filler cap moved from wheel arch to body centre above boot opening. Interior was based around original but last owner let it go rotten leaving it outside. 1st owner was Austin who lent to the USAAF until 1948, then sold to a chap in Liverpool. Purchased in 1974 by Keith and Barb Marshal who built this version and it did win a car show in the early 80's but since then has been abused by 3-4 owners until I got it! Last photo shows a knackered bank which will lead to a knackered bank balance!

I've been trying to save up to take the kids on holiday. Single man, big mortgage syndrome. Recently had to replace the computer, oven, dishwasher. Then the engine in the Hot Rod needs changing, then school trips need paying for. Got up this morning and the fridge/freezer has gone hot and cooked the contents overnight! I think that the gods are conspiring together to prevent the kids and me from having a holiday this year! Anyone got a villa available to rent!

No serial number? That's a bit of a worry! A call to Vermeer should be able to tell you where the number is hidden and what they know of the history. Good luck and I hope it goes well for you.

My immediate response is to get real. Even if you have foolproof evidence, taking the law or even thinking off.......is not the civilised way of doing things. C The wedding day might have been a tad stilted but to grease someone without cast iron proof ain't right.

I do remember that some years ago at an AA show at Highclere, Tony Lane stopped Lucy Dalrymple from making bacon butties for some other exhibitors as she did not a food hygiene ticket. We provided the stuff and Lucy knocked them up. Good luck with the show, can anyone go?

Sacrilege! Some things have more intrinsic value or historic value than scrap. Is the crane going too?

Erm:blushing: I set off a load last year at a party. But I did check with the host and other guests, checked the weather, windage etc and we discussed it through before doing it. They went up and away very gently and we enjoyed the spectacle and the children (and the grown ups) though that it was brilliant. However, I do take onboard peoples views about the wire being non-biodegradable and if used improperly, they are a fire hazard. Possibly even a danger to aircraft.

I didn't see mine either, but I spoke to them on the 'phone and found where they hid the cards and present! There have been years when the ex has "forgotten" dates too Ian, but chin up and battle on, the kids don't know they have missed a date. But they are still your kids and that is what matters. Buy it! Barn it if you ain't got time or funds at the moment as values will get stronger. Spares aren't an issue either. More and more people are getting into the show market and anything with loads of electronics is avoided but anything mechanical is bright and shiney!

The comment about overheating was an interesting one. Under ordinary circumstances a machine does not (or should not) overheat. If it shuts down due to heat then something is wrong and damage may be already be present. If it does shut down then, please, do get the blower on it as, with the engine stopped, the water pump is not turning and therefore the engine actually gets hotter for a while - potentially doing more damage. But find out why the overheat took place and fix it. Good luck with your choice, I hope it does well for you.

My Rodeo has just had its 252,000 mile service, the main dealer was not sure what to do for a service as the schedule wasn't long enough! A quick calculation makes me think I've used about £60k of fuel and about £10k in servicing in five years. Tyres have lasted 70k, 110k and the set on there are half worn at 70k. One clutch replaced with a gearbox seal at 180k (warranty), no UJ's done, no wheel bearings and only one set of pads. She is still going strong and returning about 35mpg. Shame that it has a tacho fitted tho - who else has a tacho in a crewcab? I'd have another.

A driving license is the cheapest and one one of the best qualifications that money can buy. It is one of lifes door opener. Jobs, holiday, fun and day-to-day life! Don't loose it or abuse it!

Hey David, No probs mate. Information is king and the world is a better place for the differences in us all. Debate is good and reading intelligent posts is what is good for the less well able amongst us. The original post was, as I said, just a bit of fun poked at some god-awful treework that's all.

Janey! It's comforting to know that there are some other "culture vultures" amongst the members! Good on you! By the way, I want to take my kids to an outdoor "sound and light" spectacular this summer, anyone know of a good one to get too (Not Glydebourne neither)
