  1. Still going strong that one gaz [emoji1303] Was worth the effort , you can buy RW pins and pulleys from tree kit ... carbon sheet Is pretty dear but easy to work with one you have traced a regular wrench pattern on it, still half the price of regular wrench although I would not want it main line as it would wear out pretty quick , you tend to be a bit more gently on a hook though traversing.
  2. Tried this from the local butcher , sausage meat and black pudding wrapped in bacon, Northumbrian haggis apparently. Was pretty good.
  3. Agree there josh , the big bar in forestry is bollox unless you like de railing your chain every 5 minutes....15” on a 560 is perfect control, speed snedding , difficult to derail, quicker to sharpen and there isn’t many tree you can’t fell with a letter box. Big bars on Arb saws when on twisty stems chogging down are great though... you look more manly , don’t have to move as much and it feels great holding a big long powerful tool whilst watching the scared little ground guys scuttering around struggling trying to move huge lumps of timber out the DZ before you drop the next lump on them... I did put an 18” with 9pin on a spud ported 395 when my 372 needed a rebuild , it was great fun until I realised I had done 5litres of fuel prepping some branches for the chipper.
  4. Could be worth a punt ,I’ve found I’ll burn out any cord other than armour prus very quickly ,so anything else seems falses economy in comparison.
  5. Eggs ,bacon ,sausage ,beans ,mushrooms, hash browns ,fried toast and tomatoes.. I prefer haggis though.
  6. Me too Andy [emoji38].. new bar and chain ....must be a gnarly wolf tree which should never of be chosen as a saw log full of tension and compression...
  7. Just another thought are your mill bolts on the height adjustment done up tight ?
  8. Thing that gets me is why are they not taxing or banning or these Chinese imports that are recommended to run on high ratio mixes and have no compliance’s ... they should be seized and crushed at the docks if other legit companies have to comply..

  10. Ok .... I have never had an issue with tension when milling ash but larch on a band saw can be a pita if not saw log quality .... any photos of the log end to see the ring growth? would be interesting to see a photo of your chain cutters from a top view to.. unless as bill says there is an almighty knot and even then that will only slow the mill down the only other thing would be Stone or metal and that would destroy your chain.
  11. Interesting I’ve heard this many times but I hate it personally, if you keep teeth that uneven by the end of the chain you will be missing some.. it just keeps things simple as well if the teeth are the same then the same number of strokes for each raker is needed and you won’t have to measure and set them individually.
  12. Personally I never use wedges .. if you did it would be when your coming out of the cut. I try and always put down pressure on the mill handle and keep an eye on front and rear rails you can usually catch it and apply enough pressure if it starts to deviate.. I would be looking at the chain for damage , looks like it’s blunt on one side to see that amount of deviation. Chains are every thing milling , I even bench grind my milling chains with tons of oil to keep them from bluing and at a factory angle and to keep every cutter the same , even though I have sharpened chains since a kid and could do it twice as fast by hand if they are not 100% perfect you will get deviation milling.
  13. Tajfun from kilworth or igland from Wilson’s would be my choices... or maybe an oelher winch from FMS if I had money for a quality European winch, people who own them swear by them.. for pulling power and value you can’t go wrong with a tajfun though. Would not touch a uniforest with a barge pole.
  14. Think it’s English By the surrounding trees .... it was probably in the pond for ten or more years !! Can’t believe the little igland winch pulled it had to double up pulleys and snapped a cable but I think was worth it.
  15. Few hours this afternoon on this oak log we dragged out a pond last year ... sap wood is shot but the heart Wood was spot on.
  16. Can’t say I agree , auto tune husky’s with the exception of my first gen 576 have been spot on and very productive for me, I have brought a few echo climbing saws and I can honestly say I don’t miss manual carbs , these need retuning monthly... I forgot just how crap it is to have manual carbs on a climbing saw.
  17. I think they did release it as never give an inch in different country’s , hard to get a copy as Paul Newman didn’t agree with old growth logging later in life and tried to get his film banned.. or so I have heard. Agree stubby the book is better ... the film is good though despite the American theatrical trailer for it makes it look horrific it still sort of shows the characters in the way kesay portrays them although I think the book is better as it shares there thoughts.
  18. Every new saw the tonnage goes up.. I’ve been a rack and a half ahead by the end of the day with a 560 then swap with cutting partner on a 357 and it about evens it self out by day two .. problem is with any thing that burns bright dies quick. I would take a 562 any day over another saw for hand cutting.
  19. Some times a great notion , the book is my favourite... the film to me is gold.. Basically about a family of loggers trying to fill there current contract, the union has all the other loggers on strike but the stamper firm who “never give an inch “ carry on logging to the anger of the town...in this scene hanks just had all his logging equipment sabotaged and burnt out by the union so he takes his revenge ! Gonna have to watch murphys war later !
  20. Bill they are yours if you want them mate.
  21. [emoji1303] I rate them mark but they have changed the design and I’m not getting on with them climbing... or wearing in general ! They would of been my 4th pair, fancy a change
  22. Any body want a pair of Andrews size 43 worn for 9 days so in good condition virtually new £150.
  23. I came off a weigh bridge the other day thinking I was going to get a ticket , I was surprised I was still 150kg under so I don’t think transits are as bad as they are made out... mines ancient as well done over 180k on original engine and never needed any welding , I have had ones that have fallen apart and left the rear chassis on the drive attached to the chipper at 7 years old ! I would definitely look at an Iveco next time though.
  24. Ballast the front wheels with water and anti freeze could that be an option ? you just need the right valves.
