  1. I run an old Vermeer 252 , it does most stumps with ease but grinders do require a lot of maintenance if worked hard in tough ground. I would avoid any hydraulic head powered machines as they sap so much power you might as well use a small pedestrian machine. The only upside is they don’t have belts to maintain and replace but Its not worth the sacrifice as easily the most tedious maintenance is keeping teeth sharp.
  2. Have boat prices gone up much eggs? My moneys on the woman who got kicked off.
  3. Problem is they are water proof until you get near hawthorn , blackthorn ,trees with roses in ect .. then they are fecked.. I try and buy a new pfanner Nanoshield every other year, keep a knackered one as a work jacket and general damp jacket but switch to the decent one if it’s all out pishing down.
  4. At what the cloggers cost I save them for June -sept then go back to pfanner or the solidurs
  5. Still pfanner arborist in my view. Clogger zero if you don’t care about not being rated for the uk don’t mind paying the import tax but they are the lightest and free moving. These if you want the cheapest hard wearing. Solidur Infinity Chainsaw Trousers WWW.CHRISFORESTRY.CO.UK INFINITY Super Stretch Type A Chainsaw Trousers Class 1 EN381-5 Low bulk 5 layer...
  6. I have some yew trunk boards milled to about 2.5” ?
  7. Absolute golden era , we used to bunk off school put on stupidly large trousers and adidas gazelles and get the train to the next town and try and imitate the WI guys 😆 found this interesting interview mate .. wish I’d stayed on the tree house and discussed, I don’t think I ever put the two people together though. 8. Thanks Jon , I will take them off and send them when I get a chance.
  9. Yes I’ve always done the rod bracing whilst the stems have been pulled together and sometimes crown reduced and braced, depending on tree and spec …you can get that gap to almost seal. like I said my only experience of oaks is limited we braced them at college and I seem to remember a lot of pulled cables on the campus but site wise I had only had one veteran old pollard out side of Stevenage that must of pulled it’s cable every year for three years… in the end we put cobra on.. I think the tree was heavily re pollarded in the end too, but we aways used cobra bracing on oak since.
  10. Im quite happy rod bracing on say a beech but my experience of oak using rods and steel bracing is that the Tanin reacts and the rods pull.. unless it’s galvanised or stainless rods I would not.. but rod bracing is good , I’ve saved a few trees with it. Some of the American sites like tree stuff sell massive augers for rod bracing ,worth a look as you won’t get them in the uk so factor that in to the price.
  11. I think it would entirely depend on what kind of work you do … if it was a lot of private back gardens in towns or tight areas it would come in to its own … I don’t do this sort of work much anymore so it really has no use but would be bloody handy if I did … also I rigged up some thing years back before this came out and we could take kids rec climbing and literally pull them up very easily with a RW … you just had to make sure they where sure on how to use a hitch to get them selves down but they always loved it and you would have to hall them straight back up!
  12. Also burning some on the house stove right now … just had to turn the back boiler pump on, considering it’s had ash on it for the last few months and it’s being a rarity unless fully loaded to have to do that any one saying it’s rubbish is talking out there arse !!
  13. Nice walk out and about this morning with something for the freezer.
  14. Burning lime this week in the biomass after coming across a seam of it in the log shed that had gone black , still reading 18% moisture so chuck it on the biomass still reading 71 in the morning and warped the door closing catch …so it can’t be too bad !
  15. Found it a handy bit of kit when I’ve used one.. I don’t own one mind but a subby I use has one, always surprises me what it will lift. can’t say it’s some thing I would use all the time though , as much as I’d like one if I want to lift small bits just use a pulley and then put on the capstan for the timber in most instances I could not justify the cost.
  16. I’m still using mine , I filled in the form and heard nothing so put them back on my tree motion bridges last week??
  17. The reason why a lot of insurance companies want tree reports and surveys of property before they insure it in the uk??
  18. The fact he’s let that tree get in to that state and done nothing would be a red flag as well as what you have said .. be lucky you have avoided dealing with the guy any further and move on.
  19. Why ? Hmr shoots better, shoots straighter and flatter.. unless it’s my burnt out 452 !
  20. Unfortunately I don’t mate as it looks really nice .. I think if I brought another gun though before I’ve finished the house the misses will finish me too.
  21. Probably right , hogue are usually stamped underneath the grip, it could be anything as I brought it secondhand and the only mod I was made aware of was the sound moderator so thought it was standard … I don’t know much about it’s history but it was the only second hand 243 700 near me when I was looking so jumped right on it… I will tear it down and rebuild it to something I want if I ever get time but it does every thing I need and has a tight group unlike my cz that seems to be the most inconsistent gun I’ve fired and the things supposed to be like a lazer in 17hmr.
  22. It’s just the standard sps hogue stock, so I’m not sure I don’t know enough about them… I will at some point maybe upgrade the whole thing as my misses won’t let me buy any more guns 😆 I see there are plenty of DM kits for the 700’s so will probs go down that route , just like the idea of a 5 round mag and going out with a closed bolt instead. putting a few rounds in and having to take them out every time I go out seems to be damaging the tips of ammo which I’m convinced is harming accuracy. It’s the only one locally I have not been too but I will go one day, I usually use Bradford stalker or bywell for guns and ammo.
  23. That’s really nice , did you buy it already converted ? … I was thinking today I really fancy a 308 or maybe a mag conversion for my 243 so didn’t need to see this. My 243 getting a clean for a stalk tomorrow.
