  3. keep looking mate you might find a gem but as ed says you'll be lucky to get in that price rang other than it is of some age ,then you need to way up the reliability / wear & tear
  4. been quoted £5995.00 + for a picus 4 £10.500 + vat for the 12
  5. Glad you found the site it can offer a lot of really good info as for your training look at what is required !! re training units chipper isnt a mandatory requirement in the same way as cs 30,31, 38, 39 additional training options are dismantling, medium & large tree felling, removal of wind blown trees , stump grinder, woodchipper etc etc check out the Hse Afag guides & the nptc website for info once you have a grounding in the practical the theoretical stuff seems to make sense easier sole emersion in the college world prior to exposure to the contracting world can be a brutal rude awakening for many entering this profession. look at your finance & then imagine two years as an apprentice is that feasible or even attactive ! I have a guy whos been with us for four months he is only now going on a course cs 30 31 next week as the tution / theory should gel much easier now that he has aborsbed the context in which the course is to be applied.
  6. matt explain is the finish of the cut below that of your sink cut ? or do you start high therefore leaving the final hinge as in a conventional flat fell cut
  7. A wise move matty you need to define your role, if they want advice then fine , some folks expect academic advice thrown in FOC wether or not they pass on any actual work to you, ( a full day of that earns you sod all & Time is money & diesel is a fortune) advice has its costs attached to it, in the same way as any physical remedy does,
  8. Tony In your opinion lite Or fat boy ? I can see the multi role ie aerial application with the lite Does the speed of the other, out way the flexibility ? also what is the relative working time in each case ?
  9. Matty F this has obviously got an amenity value that pretty much goes without saying however given its location & condition & the likely hood of the hazard ( mechanical failure) leading to serious harm either to property or life then this is a raised level of risk ( over an open field specimen) Are you Being paid to right an independant hazard evalution report or price up the two potential jobs as a Major reduction / Remove as contractor either way any of your findings should be brought to the attention of your client in writing, then once armed with the info let them decide , its their tree, you can only guide them by pointing out the extent of the disease & the known effects & the consequences on this genus after all its there money they need to choose based on an informed opinion the way forward as it is their risk
  10. promotion is down to all of those within the tree care industry bodies are only as good as those supporting them trees need roots yet there efforts are often un sung the problem is defining 'bad tree practice' http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=38163#post38163 aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder dangerous practice however is the role of the HSE
  11. oh my word ! I really find it difficult to see that in a good light , as you say it goes against all that I percieve as positive tree surgery / management ' ugly tree work ' a concept that is hard to see favourably , maybe we as an industry think about things too much , quite what the publics perception on this is makes me cringe , its hard enough to get through what we have been told is good tree practise without bodies such as the NT promoting what could be termed as ' tree butchery' Where does Codit fit with this technique not sure about Congrats on the 2m rip I'm sure that you will have rivalled the works of many a non professional, You may have missed out by leaving too few pegs tho' LOL
  12. oooops start worrying if she does the same with ann summers & buys lots of batterys
  13. top tip trust those who you know to be trustworthy , & be aware that not all people will act within the values you personally work on !! if they con you once its their fault, if twice its yours !!! some folks are just born liars & will abuse your trust .
