  1. that is a matter for the HSE & in that case the AA if you can prove it I agree some practioneers of all skill & competancy levels could see a change in business, if the credit crunch squeezes harder this may in some cases lead to a alteration in work practises, hopefully only short term though in my opinion professionalism will always win through , If that which must be done is enforced We've all seen the rigger boot & 12 old groundie brigade (the worst was at a school 'public monies') As professionals within the tree care industry if we know of dangerous operations or serious breachs in legislation, we should have no quarms about informing the relevant bodies. I HAVE !! If they then choose not to act then thats their decision, just keep it on file !!
  2. How often & lets be honest do customer 's A ask to see your tickets B ask to see your insurance c your accreditiations d Memberships versus how much mate !!! er cant ! you do better i've got another two blokes coming to quote I appluade the new standard for its attemps my issue is what will it change, as its will be ni on impossible to prosecute. unless legislation is changed then it has no teeth, other than on Tpo or conserved trees and even then will it matter this is with regard to another British Standard 5837 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=2972 Also are local authoritys going to be bound by this, or do they get an exemption with the publics tree stock ?? although it will give the gear freaks among us a valid excuse to carry two tonnes of kit to each TD
  3. it was for services utilites elec & gas & so far yes there still standing , you wouldnt believe it but the building inspector verbally said it was okay to do, the planning boys werent so happy ! I keep meaning to have a drive past & check
  4. thanks for the responses dudes Tho' i was hoping for something in a stated case a judgement from the bench etc ! a definative what is & what isnt circumstance etc
  5. Becareful my friends I had a blazing row with these numties today Just because of what we do we WILL PAY MORE than other professions thats like for for like exactly the same specification same cost implication to them its as plain and simple as 'they want to make more brass out of us !!!! Now I dont mind business In fact I bloody love the challenge But I do object to some tosser making the load I have to bare more rhan need be ! Just because of the perseption of our industry & any possible profits Feckin livid
  6. heres some for you All done within conservation areas too !! Local Planners need to enforce 5837 with instruction to include Tree related reports in planning app's from architects & then monitor if its is being applied by contractors. education is as important a inforcement are all planning depts demanding these specs NO There NOT !!!! so if planners arent doing their job ! why would anyone else
  7. a stated case of when dangerous is dangerous other than can be mitigated this is re crown work not removal of dead dying or dangerous
  8. Hi ya chaps got an ongoing issue that I need a pointer with Definition of emergency works is there a proven case defining, such circumstances that, are highlighted when emergency tree works can be undertaken within the context of a conservation areaa or Tpo As my understanding reasons for emergency works that life or property are imminentley at risk ! that due to health & safety implications it is not save to leave the tree in its current condition ! & that none of the above can be mitigated by any other means ! to allow for the normal cause of planning as laid down within the act Pointers must welcomed
  9. Wow look at the reationary timber around there how far does the bell cavity extend
  10. that was a pile of crap , that army lass needs an attitude readjustment,
  11. i've spent quite some time commenting on this as it effcts all practioners, consultants & TO's for that matter
  12. severe prunning ie not to 1/3rd, has to occur as wind / structural /collision, damage or failure dictates
  13. yep more or less agree , the phone isnt ringing off the hook ,tho I know of companies mainly the smaller companys in their start up years who arent working all week some are doing one/two days wether that because they have cut back on advertising due to cash flow & uncertainty of the future, who knows ! The jobs we go to, we seem to get the same volume, win some lose some , price is always an issue with some customers/sectors, but a good job done, on time, offering value for money carried out in a professionally,to the spec, agreed is just as important to our clients. So all in all, in our experience its not as bad as it is for some. that said I wouldnt want to be starting up in business this year, or to be in a vunerable, high debt situation. As I see it the main concern is for those who are heavily exposed to the private customer, as they may well be spooked into holding onto money any reserves due to the hype on the Tele' in fear of mortgage rises.

But it must describe the work proposed and include sufficent particulars to indentify the trees . it May be helpful to use the standard 'notification form' provided by the LPA,although they CANOT insist on its use iain
