  1. David given the site, age, amenity value & potential risk hazard, aiding the tree to appear as natural as possible whilst reducing the wind sail, therefore mitigating the risk has been a success, coupled with the improvised cordon/ habitat pile/ bonfire waiting to happen on 5th.nov That However Doesnt mean I'm a complete convert to coronets however within this context, you guys are sucessfully prolonging the amentiy, habit & bio diversity of tree stock within a managed environment & that is what WE are about imo Well Done M8

  6. Time for you stop phoning them then I think my friend stuff em ! it can be a hard lesson to learn but, there are no friends when it comes to business 'obviously'
  7. anyhow back to the initial "whats a Good wage for groundie inexperienced climber" the idea of a good wage is subjective, it really depends on the personal circumstance, finance & drive to learn of the individual concerned , coupled with the need of the employer based on profitability & the availability within the local workforce imo rgds all Iain
  8. quote The fire men a few years ago got very upset because tube drivers were on £34,000 a year and they were on £25,000, the problem was that there was a shortage of people wanting to drive trains so the wage was increased until it attracted people to do the job. Whereas for every vacancy in the fire service there were 80 applicants! so why pay more? Yep & they work four on & four off they get to sleep night shifts & get paid whilst in the land of nod, so they are nice & fresh to go out on rest days as tree surgeons etc
  9. I didnt realise you were a crane virgin Pete !!

  11. if you thought that was a possiblity I doubt we would be discussing this ,however if you think that is an option a slight variation imo Get a written acceptance of your quote including a cavat re cancelation by the client You (should build that into your job quote / acceptance profile anyway ) then ring if your still that way minded

I agree with all that Matt, Well said ! only BUT I make is debt is a bitch, if you dont have enough monies coming in, to cover whats going out, it really doesnt take long for it to go nasty ! & I have seen far too many ARb co's who start up, in a blaze of glory "& who are going to break eggs with a big stick" Buy mega amounts of everything but sod all work to do & then a year or maybe two later (if their lucky) BANG ! slowly slowly catchy monkey !

  18. Yep and a wise one IMo , the wacky world of business is always somewhere you can return talking to guys from all over the uk, there appears ! to have been a mad rush into arb over the last two years, WITH many new start up ventures, SOME BY the starry eyed kit monsters, who end up all fighting for customers, (that if rumour mongors are to be listened to re the 'credit crunch ') will get harder & harder to find my point are some too easily tempted by the latest hipe over equipment & the kudos of that big TD job As imo Big Td's arent as profitable as some other types of work, also big shiney kit on its own 'doesnt' pay overheads it causes them ! its easy to over extend, especially if the crunch does bite ? just thoughts !!
  19. okay boys is it just the buzz of whos done the biggest & baddest & got the biggest shinest kit or is it the practical grind of making it pay > then developing your business profile so that really makes the grade ! Where do you stand ? .
