  1. Ive not put many pics up for a while so heres a wee sycky I did a while back. Rigged the back off the tree over the gardens, then snapped it down; Recon it was about 90 foot, and the stem was about 6foot diameter;

    Oops! Sorry jonesie, just ordered one yesterday- hope you dont feel robbed mate? Our dealer has the SH86 in, but i wanted the BG, they say it should be there in about a week. Price is £200 inc vat, does that sound ok?
  4. Yeh, dont want to dwell on the chip subject as its off topic, but my point was around here most people try and avoid carrying chips home, they tip them where they can- giving them away etc. I do sell them, but never have the time to arse around with them for a few quid, when i usually have a good list of tree work to do, and definately wouldnt run a chipper when i could leave timber on site! Hopefully back on topic matt:icon14:
  5. :dito: Exactly what i was going to put!
  6. Matt, do you use your front ball much? I never put one on mine but have occasionally wondered about one, perhaps its a tool you would use a lot if you had the option?
  7. An interesting point cabstar, are you saying it is viable to run a chipper just on the basis you can sell the chips, even in matts situation when he could leave the stuff on site? Main reason i ask is, around us chips tend to be a bind, can be sold with some effort, but definately not worth producing just to sell. Perhaps its different in the south west?
  8. All the best lee, another one to the club, welcome mate:wave:
  9. Thats some heavy weight bumper Matt. Nice work, something satisfying about building stuff like that yourself. I have a very heavy one on front of mine but now i`m worried about hitting something very hard- i think the chassis would give first:bawling:
  10. I would say from a mechanical point the mog should be ok on veg, but i deffo wouldnt put it in the disco:scared: From what i gather about the more modern engines, anything with a management system on it, the injectors have much smaller holes (supposed to be more efficient) and can block when run on veg. I know the Td5 doesnt like it. Dont know about the tax issue though............
  11. Shyhuck, you`re makin me paranoid now:008: Seriously i wouldnt worry about it, like andy says, truth will out in the end. Some people may stretch the truth just to boost thier own ego, whilst i know some others tend to be conservative about what they can do, and what they have- just the way folk are i suppose. Off topic a bit i know, but have you all noticed how many non-posting members there are? Would be nice if more of them felt happy to post- you never know, we could all learn something- i certainly have from reading other peoples input.
  12. Stihlwaters, going back to your first post, i think you will struggle to get the perfect machine for all jobs. Even if money is no object you can spend a lot on a big machine and still be limited on smaller jobs- access etc. You will feel like you are stuck between a rock and a hard place when choosing your first machine, and still get it in budget! By the sound of it you intend selling firewood, so that is a consideration. But also you should take into account what sort of work you carry out, ie is it mostly hardwoods or do you do lots of conifers, hedge reductions, willow/poplar re-pollards etc? This will help you decide in infeed size. I would still definately go for hydraulic feed whatever machine you end up with. Another small thought is, would you have a market for chips? Oh, and dont worry about shovelling chips out of the truck, as i have said before- use a fork- its easy! Hope you get sorted.
  13. Think Mr Bish just said all that about his 5" machine
  14. Mines a 110 though. Something about landys that gets under the skin:fisheye:
  15. What is the world record ed, is it around 12 secs? Just curious as I dont suppose theres any point in me having a go against the clock! Unless someone could hold a few stone of mine while i tried:heeeelllllooooo:
  16. I know theres always the environment to consider, the wife wanted to part-ex the sport; But i think ive got her persuaded to keep it as her runaround and still get the porsche for me:wave: Still will have the landy for work but hey, it works for my living, if you know what i mean.
  17. Dont you think the X5 looks like a 320 touring on steroids? Im presently trying to get a good price on a new one of these;
  18. Ah, sorry jamie, the reference to high tech was i`ve not advanced to an 11mm rope as yet! Dont mind the fire, just keep it for pruning jobs and the samaon mainly for dismantles. Not had a problem with either milking though.
  19. I dealt with b-trak, great, no problem. Also dealt with sherrill direct, bought a set of extra long klein spikes (that no one else seemed to be able to supply). They shipped them, i collected them from the courier and payed them the tax. All together, including postage and tax they came out at £180- could hardly buy a standard length set here for that.
  20. Ok, i`m playing catchup, i didnt pay enough attention to see the bark blowing off the stem of the beech! Looks very interesting work you get involved in and the work that goes in creating a habitat such as that beech is not easy. Sorry for my silly questions, but i was just curious to know more! I find it a very interesting subject that i have never been involved in, cheers.
  21. Really nice pics tim, nice to see stuff like that. It makes our job look easy by comparison in the modern world!
  22. Dont get carried away, read the whole post!
  23. Eh? Definately not! I had two of them, ran for many years, bomb proof, but as i say before i was in arb. You obviously never had anything to do with them, biggest downfall was only available in petrol- would be a killer in this day and age! Small truck, 4x4, go anywhere, drive like a car, throw your crap in the back, tow 1200kgs, 35mpg, what more could you ask for in 1990?
  24. Ok, heres my favourite of a few years back (pre arb work) you wont get many chips in it but you can get £50 worth of logs in it, and it will go anywhere! Shame they stopped it and didnt build a diesel;
