All we can do is share opinions, experience and views on here, whether any of us take any notice, learn from it, or not, is entirely upto the individuals reading. Please dont be offended by people trying to give genuine advice, we all, at the end of the day do not want to get into a situation we could regret in the future.

Sorry mate, but i think you must be living in a different time scale! Your attitude reminds me of the many years i spent working in agriculture, where the attitude from employers was generally "If you dont like it f**k off" Those days are gone my friend, and what you may find is, if any of your employees do decide to sue you in the future, they have very strong powers behind them. Please dont take any of the comments on here personally, I believe everyone,as i am, are just trying to make you realise what responsabilities employers have.

Firstly, hi fifer and welcome. I understand what you say about its price and that its biodegradeable, but believe me it does have residual effects when mixed strong enough to kill a stump. I am not saying it is wrong, its actually a fully accepted practice to use it or SBK, hence why you can buy both in B&Q. As a fully licenced agro-chemical operator i have seen the residual effects roundup has when mixed chemical (at 4L/hectare) has been over-sprayed giving 3-4 times the intended dose. These areas can often stay bare for many years, and that is still not concentrated enough to kill a tree stump. Such a shame ammonium sulphamate has stopped being made, as it was always a good tool to show the customer you are concerned about the environment, and that it was safe for their pets and children. Im not having a rant, just my point.

I score inside the bark line with a saw, perhaps 10mm deep, then just put it in the groove, liberally, dry. If rain is forecast. stick a bucket, plant pot or a pre-cut ring of wood from the stump on it to stop it washing off.
  22. Ok, got the feedback on mine. Had a phone call from the fitter who inspected mine. He started telling me he had stripped and checked the tensioner, oil pump and pipes. He then said the tensioner is ok, works fine, and i was probably trying to over-tighten the chain. And, the bar groove needed cleaning out so now he`s cleaned it out, it oils fine! I feel insulted, i have always been maticulous servicing and i have always felt my maintenance is well above average, but i was definately put in my place. Whats more is, as it was "bad maintenance" i will be getting a bill for his time:jumping38:

Just buy pond salt-its cheaper than amicide anyway. In theory, glyphosate(round up) should not work on stumps. It is a foliar acting sytemic herbicide, but people usually mix it so strong or put it on neat it cant help but kill! If you put say, bleach on a stump in great concentration it would kill it, but hey? SBK is also a very crude way of killing a stump. You also are recommended to mix it with parrafin- how crude is that? Chemicals such as these do have risidual effects when used in great concentrations, are not wildlife friendly and are also not good for the operator, children playing etc. For the price of salt, i cannot see a reason for using a chemical, unless its for more detailed treatments such as poisoning brush.
  24. Geeez bob, only just read your thread! Nicking tradesmens gear is as low as it gets, cant say much more bob. Wouldnt it be nice if the police get the culprits and let you and a few mates into a room with them for a few minutes Dare say that would be the best justice.... and you would get your chipper back:bash:
  25. Adam, how you getting on with yours?
