  1. You are almost certainly over weight with a 1300kg load on a transit. Quick trip to the weighbridge will tell you for sure, and save you getting fined.
  2. I think you have defeated your own argument Mick, you say you have paid in so you feel justified in claiming free health care and a state pension. I have paid in too, so I have no qualms about claiming what I am entitled to, eg tax credits, free nursery places, and free school education for my child. Besides, by the time I am a lot younger than you, so I wont get to draw a state pension until I am 85, and by then it will be worth about 50p a week. Seriously though, the future of the country depends on people procreating, my daughter will pay your pension, the money that you put in has already been spent. Without another generation of taxpayers the economy will die. If parents had to pay for the medical expenses of pregnancy, all the costs associated with bringing up a child including health care and education, no-one but the very rich would be able to afford it.

    Rack?
  5. The tax advantages are minute now. If you are happy being a partnership but want limited liability, why not look into a limited liability partnership (LLP)? The Business Link website has lots of useful info, but the person you really need to take advise from is your accountant.
  6. At last, a good use for a Mog!
  7. Really sorry to hear that, cant imagine how you are feeling right now.
  8. Depends who you talk to. There is no link between the companies, that is true, I was referring to the design history of the two makes. Grenadier, if you havent used a Greenmech for a few years, then get a demo before you write them off. I have used some of the older designs, and the new ones, and the new ones are in a different league althogether.
  9. I think you would be disappointed going from schiesling to timberwolf. The 190 actually chips very well, especially when new and all the feed rollers and knives are sharp, but I feel is let down by the poor quality bearings. Vermeer service and parts are excellent, next day delivery usually on parts, but not cheap. The last part I bought was a small plastic bottle and cost £50 plus vat. Greenmech 19-28 would probably be my choice in the size range you are looking at, letterbox infeed, plenty of power. The nearest machine to the schliesling currentlyavailable would be a Tunnissen, which are kind of unoffical nephew of the more expensive machine.
  10. The disadvantage with putting any metalware in the system, be it porty or combi spanner, is if the line should snap above it, any stretch in the line will propel said metalware at the winch at a rate of knots. Friction hitchs on the other hand can slip and glaze the pull line. Knots can tighten up and are hard to loosen. Every method has its pros and cons, so its always about the best solution for the problem at hand, rather than one blanket solution to every situation.
  11. I dont work for the council, if they havent done their job properly then not my problem. My job is doing what the client wants, and getting paid for it. By your logic, the defense lawyer in a criminal trial would stand up to make his opening statement and inform the court that he couldnt represent his client as he believed him to be guilty. Why is it tree people have this bizarre definition of professionalism? No wonder the rest of the world cant take us seriously.
  12. I'd love to help out but i'm away on holiday this week.
  13. Moi? Never!
  14. Something like this then Layland Freighter 420 engine 17 Tonne gross with HIAB on eBay (end time 26-Oct-10 16:08:20 BST)
  15. Buy an old tractor trailer, take the sides off and fit bolsters, and stick a hiab type crane on the drawbar. Run the hydraulics off the tractor, and buy a little grapple and rotator for the crane. Not worth getting into o licensing for the amount of work you are talking about.
  16. Forget the knot, use a portawrap.
  17. Have a word with David Riding, thats his stamping ground.
  18. Is it small diameter enough to go through a kindlet type machine? I have plenty of my own tbh, but if its suitable for kindling that would probably be your best route for marketing it. Either that or get it chipped for woodfuel.
  19. Clean straight grained poplar.
  20. I would second Dave's machine, having worked with it on a couple of sites. Very capable, zero tail swing, and it comes with the right accessories. Get a quote for the haulage though, that will cost you more than the hire. (Unless Dave is going to run it up on the big trailer behind the fastrac!)
  21. APC, you can tow a trailer of up to 3500kg, or the maximum permitted trailer towing weight of the vehicle, whichever is the lower. Potentially that gives you a total maximum authorised mass of 7000kg, if you had a 3.5 tonne vehicle towing a 3.5 tonne trailer.

Thats the stuff. Besides, the 880 will double up as a baby sitter, tea maker, and emergency life raft. Well, for the price it should do!

You may well be able to fell it, but I wouldnt fancy ringing it up. Besides, everyone should have a 90cc saw, they are the dogs danglies.

He said the same to me, 3 years ago. I ended up buying one anyway, and I am very glad I did. It replaced a 440 and a 460, and I prefer it to both of them. Over the 3 years its had a proper beating, running up to a 25" bar felling lots of big trees, and its never missed a beat.

Not sure on price, with the regular filter dust always seems to get through, the HD is a lot better.
