  1. It probably puts up links based on your personal browsing history. All I get is links to lorry websites.
  2. Absolutely, and you can always document it into your CPD folder. I learnt more in one day at my first event than in 8 years working.
  3. No thanks, getting nptc involved in comps would be about as much fun as taking a driver test examiner to a track day.
  4. The SIP Progress seem ok so far, had them since Capel and not showing too many signs of abuse.
  5. Got you. Once again Brussels shoots themselves in the foot.
  6. Andy, are you saying that a C1+E licence holder is not considered to be HGV? And therefore exempt from CPC requirements etc?
  7. DVLA will not be revoking entitlements, if you have the category on your licence they cant take it away. If you dont complete 35 hours of CPC in the next 5 years, you wont be able to work as a driver. You will still be able to drive as part of your work as Andy detailed above. The CPC, confusingly, is not the same as the CPC needed for a standard national O licence. Driver CPC is about keeping up to date with driver related training, ie drivers hours regs, fuel effecient driving, first aid etc.
  8. Its not three days old, unless you actually picked it up from DMM 3 days ago. Biners leave the factory with a small amount of grease in the gate to keep them in good nick while they are sat around in a warehouse or shop waiting to be bought. The minute they go into service in tree work the grease picks up sawdust, I can see it inside the gate in your photo. Are you really so ignorant of climbing techniques that you were happily climbing on biners that didnt close? Did you not detect any problems while carrying out your pre-climb kit check, or your weekly inspection of which you keep a written record? Both of these are as integral to LOLER as the 6 monthly inspection, and are in my opinion more important for your safety than the thorough examination at 6 months. You can't expect items of kit like biners to go out in muddy dusty wet conditions and function perfectly with no maintenance, and then pass an examination. More fool you for not checking your kit and not looking after your kit, after all it is your neck on the line. Good luck with DMM, in my experience they produce a high quality product, but if your biners are genuinely substandard then I am sure they will replace them.
  9. What exactly is dodgy about the gates?
  10. What distance and from where?
  11. Indeed. Of course, if you collected timber from someone else's site, and then sold it back to them, you could then legitimately deliver it to their yard.......
  12. Had both of these as my last two pairs of boots. Airstreams very comfortable, good for climbing but not so great for spikes as the instep is shallow. Didnt last too long, the sole wore through and the rand started to detach. If the goretex inner remains intact they will still be waterproof, mine did wear through eventually and started to leak after about 14 months of daily wear. In the Zermatts now, again very comfy once they have moulded to your feet, very snug supportive fit, quite a rigid boot. Ok for climbing, excellent on spikes, rigid sole and deep instep. Excellent for rough terrain like trackside ballast. Lasting well, just over a year now and still going strong. Definately waterproof, and no problems with the rand even where it is cut and scuffed. I will probably go back to the Airstreams next time, purely because I cant footlock too well in the Zermatts.
  13. What diameter will your kindler take Steve? I looked into this as I have about 50-60 tonnes of really nice clean pop, but most of it is 18" and upwards in diameter.

Not tried or tested it, my initial thoughts would be the bend radius on the pulley cheeks is a bit tight, and how about putting a thimble into the eye to minimise that and problems with chafing?
  15. Do you sell steel signs Justin? Still havent found a foldup sign that actually lasts more than 5 minutes.

    i'm home

Nice mate, nice to have a bit of a holiday eh!?
  17. Not a lot simpler, the only difference now really is that you dont need a CPC holder, and the levels of available finance you have to show are a bit lower.
  18. I got a Weaver leather sheath for mine, had a picture somewhere but I cant find it now.

Glad to be of help. I shall expect a credit in the next film, nothing too flashy, Technical Consultant is about right.

Not if you are using a ASAP as the backup device. You only need to run the main device, not the backup.

That is designed specifically for passing knots through, and costs £200. Stainless porty costs $109 from Sherrill, bearing in mind it will be destroyed by the end of the trip, I think its a better choice.

No need, seperate safety line is already part of the system, so total redundancy is built in.

    Small stainless steel portawrap?
  24. I could downplate my 18 tonner to 15 tonne to save £450 per year, but it would be sheer lunacy. That extra 3 tonnes of payload gets used nearly every time the truck goes out.
  25. Bugger! On the bright side they didnt get your new alloys.
