  1. Loading and decent brakes. A longer towing vehicle will compensate for other shortcomings, but won't cure them. The best towing vehicle I have ever driven is a Volvo FM12, much shorter and lighter than the 45 foot triaxle trailer it towed, but seemed to work just fine!
  2. At a guess I'd say you file the chain with it?
  3. I suppose so, didnt read it that way the first time. If its just lop and top then burning it where it falls is going to be cheaper than chipping, extracting, and loading, all for a measly few £ a tonne.
  4. On the radiator of the Jenz? Would it not be possible to sell the timber for firewood?

Did the one at Jonesie's last year, as you say a good laugh!
  6. Thats the short guide to towing trailers, you need the long, complicated and very boring guide to towing trailers.
  7. As long as you don't exceed the original design weight, or th vehicles max towing capacity, plate it at whatever you want as long as its no less than the trailers unladen weight. Clear?
  8. Yes, I know several people who have been stopped, issued with prohibition notices, and had to fit tachos in pickups or transit sized vehicles. It seems the majority of people choose to ignore the law until they get caught. However, since Richard is collecting a tractor for pleasure purposes and not for work, then this doesnt really apply to him.
  9. Plated weight on the trailer is the one rule your breaking, by 200kg. As Andy says, quick diy derating and your good to go.

Unless you have a good stove and you can shut the airflow right down.
  11. Who do you use for pallets Justin?
  12. I do that, but I just put a fig 8 type device on above my vt. In fact, I normally tie a bowline with a long tail in the spliced eye end of my climbing line, (long enough tail to reach the ground), put a biner in the eye of the bowline and choke off my climbing line, then descend as described, then use the long tail to retrieve the system. Not the best setup but ok for infrequent short descents, imo.
  13. Why do you want to descend a single line? A figure eight on a sling works well with a short hitch too.
  14. Its also quite hard to even get the hitch to move on a single line if you are hanging on it, as its difficult to unweight it and open the hitch up. A mechanical device works much better, and the hitch is just there as a backup really.
  15. I'm sure they have a SOLA for it.
  16. Looks like a boxer to me. BOXER 300 Series
  17. Can you take some pics of what you are doing? Someone will be able to give you some pointers.

Splitting into billets and stacking works really well. As above, air flow is crucial. I don't know anyone who has trieed making charcoal with it, but I think you may be on to something there. Lime apparently makes excellent charcoal, so worth a go I'd say.

Where do climbers from other countries where loler does not apply stand then? Do they have to book an inspection just for the comp?
  20. Indeed, but only if you were injured through their negligence. Even if it was their fault, there would still be a significant delay between the day you start being unable to work and when their insurance pays out, and would usually involve taking the firm to court. If you get a decent personal injury policy, they will start paying out straight away, regardless of fault.
  21. You mean personal accident insurance? Depends on the terms of the policy I suppose, you would have to ask. If personal accident insurance is important to you then it would be wise to get your own though.
  22. Then legally you are exactly the same as any other employee, and are covered by the employer's insurances. (PL & EL) If having your own insurance helps get you work, then that is of course a different matter.
  23. I feel I should wait for Rupe, since this is his favorite subject. Nevermind, just one question, what do you mean by sub contracting? Working as part of one of their teams, or taking on whole jobs with your own kit, in your own time, and without direct supervision from the main contractor?
  24. Mines an analogue.
  25. Maybe misinformed, maybe just suffering from overwhelming apathy. Like many issues in our industry, head buried firmly in sand and perhaps it will never catch up with us.
