  4. Capel manor or writtle are the two within driving distance, although not exactly local.
  5. I thought the yews were planted to make longbows to help keep the French on the right side of the English Channel, and they were planted in church yards as that was the only place grazing animals couldn't get to them.
  6. Can you burn on site? If so raking them into burn piles with an excavator is the way to go.
  7. Wrap the point where you want to cut with a single layer of electrical tape, then cut with a sharp knife. Heat seal with lighter or hot soldering iron.
  8. Just been having a good drool over that, now have serious Palfinger envy.
  9. Do you mean Yale Polydyne? If so the SWL based on a 10:1 safety factor is 680 kg.

  15. If they have acted recklessly or negligently they can be sued regardless of whether they are insured or not.
  16. This issue will never be resolved unless something goes very badly wrong and the whole thing ends up in court. You can agree amongst yourselves whose insurance to claim on beforehand if you want to, but as Andy says its up to the insurance companies to decide who is at fault, just as if you had a car crash.
  17. Nah, I'd be shot if took any precious logs off site!
  18. Hazard tree removal at a school yesterday.
  19. Well, I have to admit I am humming the Charlie and Lola theme tune right now..... And I don't even like blinkin Charlie or Lola!
  20. Got it on DVD, been waiting about 6 months for a 2 hour window without wife or baby around to watch it......
  21. My bank will only lend 10% of turnover to small businesses. However I can get a unsecured personal loan for many times that amount no questions asked.
  22. Not a great deal, no. Most small contractors seem reluctant to spend on moving timber. The attitude tends to be, it all has to ringed up for firewood anyway, so it might as well be done on site. There are exceptions, but to keep a truck busy with timber all the time you would need to cover a big area, or get a proper 8 wheeler timber truck and do proper round timber haulage as well. I like having the smaller truck though, so I can get on driveways etc. I won't be getting rid of mine any time soon, put it that way. Can't imagine having to go back to handballing timber.
  23. If you want it to work all the time you will need to look at other markets than just tree work, moving machinery or containers etc. Obviously for haulage work you will need a full O licence.
  24. That is the official position of all LAs now anyway. FWIW, according to a court ruling, if a tree is deemed dangerous it must be dangerous now, so putting an application in and waiting 6 weeks for a decision is not acceptable. If it's dangerous, get the 5 day notification in and then fell it. Document what you have done and why, as long as it is dangerous there can be no comeback from the LA. Especially if they don't have a tree officer.............
  25. Yeah, its in the picture, top left.
