  1. That extra 60 kg will be my Lab and my lunch then!
  2. Find the weight plate, I think its in the drivers door frame area? There will be 4 numbers stamped on it. One will be gross vehicle weight - 3500 kg one will be gross train weight - i thought it was 5500 but I could be wrong The other two will be max axle weights, so both smaller than 3500, the lowest one will be front axle, higher one rear axle. You cant exceed any of those numbers, so subtract the GVW from the GTW and that gives you the max towing weight.
  3. Put it on a weighbridge. Include driver and whatever tools/passengers/dogs you normally carry. My doublecab smiley face transit with ply chip box and kit etc weighed 2660kg empty.
  4. So your quite happy to double the rated capacity? What about the hitch on the trailer?
  5. Very true, and the same principle that artics work on, however many towbars are only rated at 150kg nose weight....
  6. You could still be overloaded on one axle without exceeding the GVW or GTW.
  7. Loading and decent brakes. A longer towing vehicle will compensate for other shortcomings, but won't cure them. The best towing vehicle I have ever driven is a Volvo FM12, much shorter and lighter than the 45 foot triaxle trailer it towed, but seemed to work just fine!

  9. I suppose so, didnt read it that way the first time. If its just lop and top then burning it where it falls is going to be cheaper than chipping, extracting, and loading, all for a measly few £ a tonne.

  13. As long as you don't exceed the original design weight, or th vehicles max towing capacity, plate it at whatever you want as long as its no less than the trailers unladen weight. Clear?
  14. Yes, I know several people who have been stopped, issued with prohibition notices, and had to fit tachos in pickups or transit sized vehicles. It seems the majority of people choose to ignore the law until they get caught. However, since Richard is collecting a tractor for pleasure purposes and not for work, then this doesnt really apply to him.
  15. Plated weight on the trailer is the one rule your breaking, by 200kg. As Andy says, quick diy derating and your good to go.

  18. I do that, but I just put a fig 8 type device on above my vt. In fact, I normally tie a bowline with a long tail in the spliced eye end of my climbing line, (long enough tail to reach the ground), put a biner in the eye of the bowline and choke off my climbing line, then descend as described, then use the long tail to retrieve the system. Not the best setup but ok for infrequent short descents, imo.
  19. Why do you want to descend a single line? A figure eight on a sling works well with a short hitch too.
  20. Its also quite hard to even get the hitch to move on a single line if you are hanging on it, as its difficult to unweight it and open the hitch up. A mechanical device works much better, and the hitch is just there as a backup really.

    Splitting into billets and stacking works really well. As above, air flow is crucial. I don't know anyone who has trieed making charcoal with it, but I think you may be on to something there. Lime apparently makes excellent charcoal, so worth a go I'd say.
