  1. Vermeer smart feed has been around for years. They should have got it right by now!
  2. That smoke has to the branch rubbing on the knives. No stress on vermeer always used to reverse the feed to stop that happening.
  3. I wouldn't buy a 9 inch (220) Greenmech, I'd rather have a 7.5x9 inch (19-28). The 220 is an old design, and in my opinion not one of GMs better offerings. The 19-28 on the other hand is an excellent machine.
  4. The tracked bandit is a bit basic really, tracked chippers have evolved a little on this side of the pond. What makes are available in Hawaii?
  5. The fishermans is taking 50% of the load, the eye splices 25% each, so the fishermans should be nearest the spine.
  6. Easy peasy. Stick it in a Word document, export it as a pdf.
  7. Depends how long you leave it in for, and how good the kiln is. An old insulated truck body with a couple of fan heaters could be considered a kiln.......
  8. Billy, post #12
  9. I don't find they get in the way of climbing, and I like to dismantle in quite a systematic way which precludes leaving branches to stand on. Especially when rigging. To me the whole point of rigging is to get the tree down in the fewest number of cuts possible, so that the tedious work of cutting the tree up can be done more quickly and efficiently on the ground. I hate stubs in every way imaginable. Maybe if one were to dismantle a tree in tiny pieces like our Swedish friends are wont to do then it would make sense, but that is another debate.
  10. 4 Mix engines are 4 stroke, which are more generally more fuel efficient than 2 strokes. New Stihl saws have stratocharged engines, which are generally more fuel efficient. How does any of that relate to remapping a diesel ECU? If you really want to know more, read up on Euro emissions standards and what they are for, and how reducing N0X levels in diesel emissions is acheived. EGR valve an excellent point to demonstrate that modern engine designers have anything but reliability and long working life as design goals. Look at the modern light commercial vehicle, its designed to cover 150,000 miles in 5 years, and then be thrown away. My Euro II Iveco truck is 11 years and 300,00 km old, and given proper maintenance will still be going strong in another 11 years and 300,000 km. Can't see any of the new Euro V Adblue reliant engines lasting that long.
  11. Much of it is to do with meeting emissions standards I believe, which contrary to what you might think, tighter emission controls are often acheived at the expense of fuel economy.
  12. Do you have any evidence of training or certificate of competence from your country of origin?
  13. That was one ugly looking tree. What did yo do with the timber?
  14. I quite often put my spikes on to climb the stairs. I agree its a different climbing technique, but I can dismantle faster and more safely with them on.
  15. Lovely lump! What did you do with it?
  16. I wanna know what you said now!
  17. Still needs PA1 at least to handle, not sure which PA covers application though?
  18. Is that an acceptable approach for a small company to take for aaac?
  19. Logging up and leaving on site=no need for crane.
  20. What are you going to do with the tree once it's craned? If you're going to load it straight on a lorry and away then it will save a bit of time, if your going to ring it up and hand load it onto a transit then not much. All depends on the access to the tree really, if it would be a long nasty drag the crane will be a time saver, if itsroadside it's a bit pointless.
  21. Some good points there, have you tested the DMM to make sure it won't break your teeth or is that purely speculation? Any volunteers to be whacked in the face with several different pulleys step forward now.
  22. In that case its probably a Tarquinodendron felixensis. Suffering from a nasty case of Bombay Sapphire disease.
  23. Does she think she knows what it is? If not then just make up a name, something really obscure, invent an equally obscure disease that its suffering from, and tell her it needs to be felled to prevent the imaginary disease from spreading. Sorted.

    rope

What hitch and hitch cord do you use? A friction hitch cord with a high melting point will burn your rope more than a cheap polyester type cord.
  25. Easy solution to that, get your appointed person ticket and do it yourself.
