It looks nose heavy because the axle looks like its behind the centre of balance, directly under the drum, with only the infeed hopper behind the axle to counterbalance the engine. I'm sure Bandit know what they are doing though!

Depends on the product. If it is PPE that your life depends on, then it needs a CE for legal reasons that are far to boring to go into here. Other kit, rigging gear or wedges or rakes, then go to town!

Did you buy all that kit especially for that job? There must be more gear there than the job was worth. If I did those kinds of jobs all the time, then investing in all the gear would be worthwhile, but since they only come up once a year (if that) then I find it is more cost effective to say, cut and chuck into the garden and employ 2 extra groundies to throw it over the fence. (Not saying that is what you should have done, just an example)

On the cover taper I dont bother marking, just cut the strands as I count them.

How about if the victim is significantly heavier than rescuer, and unconscious/unable to assist?

Nice set up. I would have a biner both ends though, as the minute that top biner is unclipped I can see the ring disappearing into the brash, and reappearing in the chipper!

I use it when I have just one lump that needs balancing, and its not worth getting the rest of the gear sent up.

You can also set up a quick 2 leg balancer with no extra gear at all. Pull a fair bit of rigging line to you, set the first anchor point with a half hitch, run straight to the second anchor point, another half hitch, and then tie the tail back onto the standing part of the rigging line to make the second leg of the balancer. I have a biner on my rigging line, so I use a marlin spike hitch and spike the biner through it for the final knot, although you could equally use a friction hitch. Quick, easy and secure. You do need a fair bit of line to do it though, so make sure there is enough left over to lower the piece all the way to the ground!

Not sure Dave, although from the pic the outrigger was only partly extended. No soil on the outrigger pad, and to end up where it is in the pic it would have dug a bit of a hole coming over.

Does your crane not have a load limiting feature? I had mine loaded to 125% capacity yesterday for its 4 yearly FM test, and it didnt quite lift the unloaded outrigger off the ground, so yours must have been seriously overloaded!
