  1. If you like the D22, have you though about a NP300 as a replacement?
  2. If the LA hasnt given a decision in 8 weeks you can appeal on grounds of non-determination.
  3. Is there camping on site?
  4. The black line runs from the croll to the handled ascender, and tows the croll up the srt line. You dont need a chest harness to keep it up right that way. It may also go higher than the handled ascender, and terminate in a wrist loop, so you can hold the srt line rather than the ascender.
  5. Not into slagging off any manufacturer, but have a good look at the minimum breaking strains of all the ropes and then make an informed choice.
  6. Have you taken your lad to work at all yet? I would find some easy jobs to do on a Saturday and take him out with you at least once a month, you'll soon find out whether you can work together. I worked weekends from a young age in the family business, a retail nursery/garden centre, learnt far more from that than a formal education ever taught me!

The so-called "Guardians of the countryside".
  8. I would still ring a crane company, you would be amazed where they can get in. Any good crane company will come out and look at the job. MEWP might be quicker if you dont have a confident climber. I wouldnt pass up the chance to climb something like that, you might never get another opportunity.
  9. There was 85 feet of stick, from 12" diameter up to 7', and the whole thing weighed around 20 tonnes.
  10. Can you get a crane up close to the tree? That would be by far the quickest and cleanest way of removing it. If you want an experienced subbie with his own crane truck to do it for you, give me a ring. My avatar pic is my truck, loaded up with 7 foot diameter redwood that I took down with a crane for another arbtalk member.
  11. £3550.
  12. I have C&G level one in mig/mag and mma, and I wouldnt employ anyone as a welder on the basis of that. I am intending to do the level 2 as well, but mostly for my own satisfaction rather than to acquire an employable skill. Starting out in any new trade right now is going to be tough, imagine yourself in the position of having CS tickets but no industry experience, and trying to get employment in arb right now, and I think that pretty much translates to what you want to do with welding. Just my opinion.

No dieback in the crown, actually one of the healthiest looking oaks I have seen this year. Plenty of foliage, nice sized leaves, good colour. I dont believe it has ever been pruned, it did have some ivy severed recently and it has started to produce some epicormic this year, whereas before the stem was just covered in ivy. To my uneducated eye the stem and butress roots all look pretty normal. Might go for a little bit of root excavation/investigation.
  15. 2550mm wide. Realistically you need 3 metres wide, and a wide enough road to get the truck turned square into the gateway.

    What am I?

I have plenty of time, fire away. The client is keen to keep the tree, is it within striking distance of her house, although it leans the other way.

What is the prognosis for the tree then oh learned one(s)?
  18. I am found on a healthy looking oak tree, at ground level.
  19. 4 wheel steer?
  20. When is yours being delivered then Dave?
  21. What splicing instructions are you using?
  22. Perhaps not. Maybe 7.5 tonnes is the lower limit for airbrakes. Not too sure actually.
  23. Nice, although the taper looks very abrupt. You can get away with it in a rope with a loose cover, but something like blaze or poison ivy needs careful setting up to be able to finish the splice.
  24. True, not sure what the difference between that and the 3.5 tonne version in terms of chassis and suspension though.
