It doesn’t surprise me one little bit, where did I actually show any surprise ??, very difficult to “act” surprised via a post I’d say !! have I not recently stated that this country has been let down by successive governments of all colours Mark, is that not specific enough ??. As I understand it, getting the thing off the launch pad and upwards was the main objective.

It was never going to the moon.

Not deliberate, per se.  It failed to dump the boosters or something.
But from what I’ve read it wasn’t a disaster.

Getting it off the ground was the key part.

It's been the SpaceX ethos from the start that you can't make an omelette without breaking a few legs, they always lose a rocket or two in the development phase. The valuable data obtained before smithereenisation will help future rockets to not explode
