I was looking for a reason for the toilet roll panic buying and I found in the Telegraph that diarrhoea is one of the symptoms of corona virus, finally found a use for the Telegraph then.

Least we spend most of our time up trees and not interacting with the public. The lads are making their own way to site, (for which I'm offering a bit of extra cash) and I'm not shaking hands with or spending much time speaking directly with customers, but otherwise it's business as usual. 

I'm not doing pubs, crowds or visits. But I don't see any reason not to work...

I am coppicing with one guy on a huge estate for the next two weeks, I have enough fuel in the truck and enough Aspen to last the job, won’t be at the pub or supermarket, in fact don’t need to meet anyone outside my home.

Unfortunately, my missus is a Primary teacher, she is in contact with hundreds of the little blighters every day, they come from all over town and have probably not been concerned about their movements up to this point. So all the steps that I have taken to self isolate are F*****g pointless.

Yeah, this seems to be the main issue. You do what you can, but you can't account for the movements of others.

 

Anyway, I actually think that the UK policy is pretty reasonable on the delay phase. Isolate the vulnerable and the elderly and avoid unnecessary public gatherings. The fit need to keep working (to an extent), or the whole house of cards will fall down.

Agree with the above, the economy is going to be completely shot after 3 or 4 months of do we - or do we not go to work, plummeting stock markets and missed mortgage and rent payments. As for the theory that a lot us are going to be cut a fair amount of slack financially, I'm not entirely sure how that will really play out. What are the banks going to do if people have to keep hammering credit cards  and overdrafts for months at a stretch, eventually they will draw the horns in. It isn't just the virus, its the overall effects and long term implications on the UK in general that are going to be a nightmare

Agreed 

I wonder if HMRC will cut anyone some slack when the income/turnover for small businesses or the self employed disappears!!! My own view is they won’t give a damn based on their track record.

The only hope is that there is a concentrated, extreme variant which attacks only HMRC staff...
