To make splitting quicker you just auto return the ram and touch the lever at the right spot, you could just bolt something onto the I beam to act as a stop if you're only doing 10". Providing it is strongly attached it'll trigger the relief valve and job done.

I Was out yesterday and it was -6c here in the morning. Stunning day though. Lost a bit of feeling in my bad hand getting throwline set in the first tree hut once up and working the hand warmed back up. Fair enough it did warmup as the sun got higher but didn’t feel the cold for the rest of the day. I was pretty pleased with that as I still have damaged nerves and blood supply to 3 of my finger after a little mishap a few years ago.

I wear a Deerhunter smock, keep me dry but outer layer of material is like a sponge and takes ages to dry. Good leggings are needed as legs get soaked.

Hedgecutting did me in I reckon before I even got my hands on a saw. Climbing in the sub zero with ice and snow in the trees is tough to work through. It’s just miserable, the chipper exhaust, digger exhaust close by makes a difference to just keep heating and drying. The robo too. I'm yet to fork out on one.. but swazi is the one I've heard no complaints about. I use a paramonfor climbing in the wet, it doesn't keep you dry, not much will when climbing/raising arms up etc. But it's warm, dries quick and easy to vent. I hate being hot. There is a brand called Hilltrek that make some good looking jackets that run on vetiver and nikwak analogy stuff like a paramo. I haven't any first hand experience though. I agree with much of your analysis, though I think they take the bias further than you do. And over the years I have liked plenty of their non-news output. There is not a perfect solution and every news outlet has an agenda of one sort or another. What I think is wrong is for the public to be forced to fund the BBC. The license fee should have been abolished as soon as there became a viable choice back in the eighties. If the BBC are that good they will have no trouble attracting subscribers. To demonstrate how wrong the current system is, in my household we don’t watch any live broadcast TV except my wife and boys watch the Grand Prix which we pay for through Now TV. But because they watch this live I am forced to fund the BBC. It is like shopping in Asda but there exists some archaic law that means you have to pay fifteen pounds a month to Tesco even though you choose not to shop there.

I just watched Archer throw his wicket away for no reason, got a 4 then threw his bat at the next ball and caught out. I am not saying he’s got to stay there for the next three days, but 20 minutes, scratching around for a 15/20, which he’s well capable of, could be a game changer. Not singling him out, just cannot understand the rush.
