KMc started following Help me Id this - potential tree resin?
-
Hello! I found this recently in Croxteth Park, Liverpool, UK, whilst walking my dog. I assume that it is tree resin that has formed inside a hollow branch or trunk? I also took a pic of the trees at the location where I found it. I've never seen anything like it and I can't find any information on the web to help me get more information. I would love to know more about what it is? I would really appreciate anyone's thoughts? It is about 10cm in diameter and about 25cm long. It is very light in weight. I found it on the floor, in the woods. There was no indication of what or where it had come from. There was nothing else like it in the general area. It looks like it has been clean cut at one edge, with equipment? Thanks for any help in advance. I have tried to research on the internet, but can't find anything. I probably don't know the correct vocab to get the relevant results?

Thanks for that, can’t fault the logic. Have to admit to being negligent as far as checking further, I know I should but it looks pristine in the bottom end. Plus I can’t think of anything in there (brgs, cages) that would provide flat debris like that. I like the screw driver theory ….. right opposite the spark plug hole. Ties in with a DIYer trying a Chinese replacement plug sourced from an online store, cheap as chips. Why am I leaning towards boggery rather than mechanical unreliability ? 🤔🙄

The Chainsaw From a rope and harness ticket should really incorporate some basic rigging into it, as in the German SKT-B ticket - if you're using a chainsaw in the tree it's not long before you'll be needing to do basic rigging, and not having the rigging ticket is a can of worms waiting to be opened as soon as something goes wrong as far as insurances and liabilities go. Yes, as long as a competent person is on site and has the rigging ticket and the climber is working under their instruction you'll be fine, but how often is that actually the case? The Aerial Rigging ticket is so basic (as is the use of chainsaw from rope and harness IMHO) that they could easily be combined, with a more advanced rigging ticket to cover all the other techniques that everyone uses week in week out.

I put this together a few years ago when I ran Avants. Standard PTO 3 point linkage winch, avant 3 point adapter and then a Hydraulic - PTO pump.

I knew of atleast 2 people using top handle saws on the ground for felling on the railways , but this was pre network rail and more railtrack .but you are quite right its just knee jerk reactions to everything , rather than saying your - a twat you shouldn't have your hand there in the first place ,no payout and no job would sort the problem out albeit a very simplistic one

Still and quiet today. Started to watch the Netflix thing about Ed Gein. What a sick bloke he was and I wonder how many more there like him who got away with their crimes. Odd jobs etc today.... Bow, Team, Murk, Beatrice.

I don't think chainsaw accidents in the domestic sector are reported to HSE / RIDDOR and hence don't impact on industry accident stats - however, chainsaw accidents in the construction / landscape industries sector may. The reality is that chainsaw accidents do happen (too) often in the "pro-sector", including fatalities, and often toppers are involved...a great saw option but don't get complacent.

Morning all. Spring in the step this morning, must've been a good sleep. Wind still blowing here, ended up a long day yesterday blighted by low bridges. Surprising how many you come across that are under the 4m clearance the crane needs, haven't hit any yet. More trees to do today. Have a good one folks. And good luck with the new direction Pete, hope it works out.

I’d be interested in this winch or similar. What oil flow does it require ?
