A mate of mine who was an Engineer with Scottish Water until recently tells me the Contractor that would've done both these jobs would've been classed a Tier 1 Contractor, meaning the most compliant, professional outfit covering Scotland! He said he'd often suggested to his boss that they'd be better with a local guy who took pride in his work.

If someone's telling you it's a good little runner, 20 quid part to fix it etc, you've got to ask why they haven't done it themselves.

You wouldn't have much luck with mot fails up here Eggs, my mechanic assures me the "glove" system is used. He places a glove to cover up the warning lights and his mate never ever saw 'em guv. My truck passed umpteen tests with lights showing thanks to this system.

Well, the botched sewer pipe repair on the river Tweed has had another visit to fix it properly. The fix consists of burying the bad work with some soil dug off the banking beside it, which I imagine will wash away when the river rises. They've left the stinking, shitty wipes lagoon as is.

Built this garden office for someone a few years back. Was over an existing concrete pad from an old garage, they designed it and supplied plans. Did everything myself except for an Electrician certifying the work and making final connection. The roof has a sump with drainage contained in it which was planted as a "living roof". And these were the steps that lead to the office, built in place of the former driveway. Stone for bottom step and sleepers held in place with rebar for the rest.

Don't know about the Council permission, but DIY install doesn't necessarily mean "bodged". I'm no expert but have fitted a few that were deemed satisfactory.

You're selling it well Dan. I can think of a lot of things done lately they would've been handy for. Surprised they give a half wrap equivalent of friction, but moving them around easily sounds great. Lots of possibilities, thanks.

Handy if your in town but got to be self sufficient here, no guarantees a customer will offer and we're often miles away from civilisation. Today clearing windblown on a walking route by a river was fully 60mins walk/drive from a shop
