I tried the field test suggested by Stere. With very little pressure applied to the sides the helmet just cracked up the back.

Is it simple enough to drill accurate holes for the dowels freehand, or is it better using the little jig templates?

Not a joke but visited my mate this morning at the country hotel he looks after. Police came in asking if he'd seen anyone suspicious around the place, and could he check the grounds and outbuildings please, if anything amiss call them. He asked what he was looking for and they managed not to laugh while explaining a gent, going by the name of Jesus had absconded from the mental health ward and had been seen near the hotel, in the stables at a donkey sanctuary. My mate asked what he looked like, they said "he's trying hard to carry the appearance of a conventional Jesus". Quick as a flash my mate said "one of the guests met a guy like that earlier by the river". Out came the notebook, "what's the name of the guest?'. It's John mate, John the Baptist. They weren't half laughing as they left!

Noticed in the woods tonight, seen it once before I think but don't know what it's called. Looked at first like a feather duster, it's very delicate.

Well, I'm probably Type 1 on the Spruce Pirate scale so agree with the majority, time for a new one. @Dan Maynard That helmet has been 4yrs+ in use. It did strike me as odd it would break from a little tug, I hadn't thought about it being brittle with age. I did try a power ranger protos helmet one of the lads at work got and thought it very comfy. Anyone here have one?

Got hooked up at the back while feeding a chipper. It gave my head a tug, didn't feel much but I've noticed it's broken a thumbnail size piece of the rim. No cracks visible around the damage and otherwise the helmet is in good condition. Would anyone retire it due to this?

They don't take much convincing. Ones I've known will go after anything that moves quickly, even a leaf in the wind. But they only like doing it briefly, then want hours to recover! -

Disagree there John, I'd say a greyhound is far more suited to a flat than many other breeds. They tend to like short exercise periods and lots of sleeping/doing as little as possible in between. -
Don't know if it's much help to you, but I've read here before that a decent benchmark for the size of saw to use is log diameter x 3. So 40" diameter x 3 is 120cc saw. I may be wrong, you might have better response asking the question on the arbtalk milling forum.

Mentioned in the original post that the stove heats water for radiators. Maybe you could heat the bathroom that way instead.

Those were the days! Did similar with 2 brothers I was mates with. At their farmhouse the bedroom on 2nd floor had a balcony, we put several mattress below and did stunt jumps all afternoon. Remember the Dad coming round at one point with a sheet to put under them muttering about keep the bed clean then just left us to it

My incident was definitely caused by a mischievous dog and nothing to do with sex, although I confess I once hoovered in an attempt to get 'it'
