1. Still some railway signal boxes being used. Settle to Carlisle line has a few, as does Carnforth to Carlisle. Also a few manned railway crossings that I know of.
2. Branch loggers make good fuel for the ooni pizza ovens. I have one and use the produce for pizza oven and as kindling and starter logs in wood burner and our Rayburn.
3. Did Cumbria to Winchester for a railway shift once, it got cancelled when we arrived. 5 hours each way if memory serves. Regularly used to do around 2 hours but more locally based now. I was mainly railway climbing with some power lines.
4. Height Safety Helmet | DUON-Air vented - Made in the UK WWW.HEIGHTEC.COM DUON-Air vented height safety helmet. The first helmet to fully conform to European Standard requirements for... Saw this years ago when doing a PPE inspection course at kendal. Think the wind turbine industry wanted a soft release and other industries required a stronger release buckle. Me I'm not too bothered use chinstrap sometimes but not always when climbing
5. Vacuum Cleaner Suction vs Wattage: Have you been fooled? XO2.COM.AU Wattage does not equal more suction power. Learn why suction and airflow really matter. Watts just tells us how... Apparently it's all about suction and airflow, not watts or EU regulations
6. Apparently Lineker did host a refugee in his home back in 2021. We have a Syrian family living locally who seem to have settled in well to rural Cumbria.
7. Which cars look so outlandish that you don't want to drive them? Electric mini looks like a mini. Tesla model S looks like a generic saloon. New Audi looks like a yummy mummy's SUV. BMW id3 looked a bit different but had some genuine engineering reasons for doing so.
8. Have you got a source for this because I couldn't find anything after a quick Google.
9. I don't think we do have a large %of forest. According to a quick Google search around 13%. 138th out of 191 countries.
10. Little stove was installed 10 years ago ish and smokes when first lit out of door not top plate if the wind is in the wrong direction and windows are closed. Rayburn doesn't smoke. If chimey has good draw there shouldn't be an issue with a removable top plate
11. Quick Google search suggests they burn less coal per capita than Australia and Poland to name two countries. Germany likes a bit of coal electric but import it from Poland for green credentials.
12. If the trees are a threat to the railway there is a good chance network rail will remove them free of charge. Other contractors who might operate in that area are QTS and taziker.
13. Where abouts in the country are you and how much do you want for it. Any pictures?
14. https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-spottedykywt/volkswagen-touareg-r50-tdi--the-brave-pill/42617 Has anyone had problems with their touaregs? Seem value for money but could be a money pit.
15. American Honey Still Contains Radioactive Fallout From Nuclear Tests Decades Ago WWW.SCIENCEALERT.COM
Higher level than any other food.
Lovely place America
16. I think the British tested nukes in Australia in the 1950s. Doesn't mean it is a shithole though
17. My woodburner has an external twin wall flu and also has a problem with smoking when first lit. I tend to open a window before I light it and close the window a minute later. Once warm it has no issues.
18. I never knew that kettles had been regulated against as well
19. I've got a Chinese 660. It's done a bit of milling, a bit of felling larger trees and a bit of firewood. No major issues, just the starter chord mechanism is a bit soft. Oil cap can undo itself unless tightened with a combi spanner. I don't do a lot with big trees anymore so didn't want to spend £1000ish on a proper one. It is considerably more powerful than my mates old and tired Stihl 660.
20. Lad I know used to run his Stihl 440 on a 13 bar. I don't like putting anything bigger than a 13 on my husqvarna 550.
21. Beal Contract 10.5mm Semi-static Low Stretch Abseil Rope WWW.ABARIS.CO.UK Beal Contract 10.5mm Low Stretch Abseil Rope for industrial use. A...
22. Abaris. Beal 10.5mm Semi-static Low Stretch Industry Rope with 1 Termination WWW.ABARIS.CO.UK Beal 10.5mm Industry (formerly Antipodes rope is a semi-static...
23. As long as you have a sewn termination or spliced eye knotability is a bit of a non issue. Irata lads have to tie alpine butterfly, figure of 8knots and bunnies ears. Beal access rope can be bought for less than £1 a meter. Not as nice to look at or use as an Arborsts rope though
24. No tax = no road maintenance, no schools, no universities, no NHS, no rail infrastructure, no pensions or unemployment benefits. Would also lead to mass unemployment.
25. 13 on a 550xp for me. Less teeth to sharpen and cuts a bit quicker than a 15 inch bar and chain. Mate used to run a Stihl 440 on a 13inch bar, that was a bit of an animal
