  1. Get an accountant, keep all your receipts and invoices sent. Hand the lot to said accountants and they solve the puzzle. They can sort your tax return and advise on Nat ins contributions etc if in doubt wether you can claim it or not keep the receipt. kit, ppe, fuel, car repairs. keep a log of your mileage if using your own vehicle etc
  2. 562 has the ability to run a longer bar if needed ( sure the book says 28” !) rips with an 18 on it and a 24 setup for when needed. easy to start and auto tune so no messing with carb settings
  3. Used one a few times hired in, if the blades are sharp it will handle a bit above 3” too in smaller lengths. has some odd kill switches so if it ever won’t start, check all of them! easy to unblock if you clog it with small bits. outflow points at the floor so could load into a wheel barrow
  4. i have one, first saw i bought and it works well. feed it decent fuel, if it’s occasional use either husky’s own pre mix or aspen as it doesn’t go off. great lightweight saw that i’ve used up a tree when needing something bigger than the 200t but not up to 562 stuff.
  5. Neat way of doing that. Not seen that setup before, normally just zip line stuff. School day
  6. i found new rope, new hitch cord didn’t grip till i had done a few descents on it to ‘take the shine off’ using a VT it only gripped when i really pushed it up to set it. couple of climbs and descents and it grabs nice now
  7. I tend to find woodlands to go climb in, less dog walkers and chavs near the gear bag at the bottom the better for me! means a walk in sometimes though, new arbotec rucksack carries everything and is comfy enough. can’t see how they could find climbing trees illegal unless you endanger someone or start practicing with your saws up there!
  8. i use the same setup as MattyF using the std Rope wrench tether. 75cm E2E friction cord tied with a VT. Works really nicely for me, just over 80kg kitted up. easy to swap back to double rope too if you want to climb SRT then work on doubled. 3 holes is useful for a chest/neck tether attachment point for SRT too
  9. my bad saw the link and image further up..
  10. Yeah i have one, works pretty good, takes some time setting the length of the elastics up to allow full step range. locks into the rope with a sprung cam and can catch it on the body to hold open too. it’s no Haas but good for the money
  11. I am looking at the idea of a container too, thinking 30ft ( companies out there do them and at sensible money.) leave the container doors one end and use fo r chipper etc. Then cut a side door into the main bit and build a workshop. spray foam insulation etc. Would need to be clad, not worried about a roof though maybe just paint the top of the container black?
  12. Montane or deerhunter or Harkilla i have and all have stayed waterproof. Montane is the lightest option and cheapest. go outdoors is a good bet
  13. Tried searching for this, picked some up from skyland previously and saws ran well on it, they are a bit of a jaunt away so looking for somewhere more local to Derby will then stick up. anybody know who stocks it? cheers
  14. why not just tie it on before you climb? quite useful on srt to hold the rope down for a he foot ascender to run smooth low down....
  15. i am but based near Derby so too far north i’m afraid. Hope you find someone and glad you are open to newbies.
  16. Yet any of us newbies looking to start in the game keep getting shot to bits, don’t bother, over crowded etc etc
  17. find a friendly rec climber and have a go, attend an arb show, most have tree setups you can try. i also come from a climbing back ground, so thought the transition to trees would be easy and it’s similar ( find a decent anchor point) trusting hanging in space on a rope and ability to tie sound knots. After that it’s different in every way. Super fun, hopefully doing my courses soon but recclimbing as often as possible. to practice you want a rope, 3 way locking biners ( spinning gate locks we use for climbing are not allowed..) use your rock harness until you are actually working in a tree, it’s a good stand in just not as comfy. some friction cord, and i would add in a hitch climber pulley, foot ascender, no point in doing everything the super old way with modern kit now available. prob £150/175 there in kit. wear a helmet. start low and don’t climb alone. see if you enjoy being up there. Personally i love it and have slowly gathered kit this year and skills to transition over. Also leaving a stable reasonable paying industry as its soulless and i miss being outdoors. 3 years of living in the Alps for winters means i am happy in freezing/wet/sunburn/windy conditions. Good luck and if your ever midlands way give me a shout and we can go climb some trees. When you try SRT for the first time it’s addictive!
  18. never tried a heated handle, got this one when it came out, not on the saws full time so wouldn’t want to comment about long term lifespan but build quality seems good. they didn’t have the heated handle option when i bought it or i think i would have gone for it, nice on a frosty morning, no one likes cold hands!
  19. i have a new 562xp ace saw runs a 18bar most of the time but the ability to stick a fair whack longer on is useful. fairly light for its power so using on the end of a rope/spikes it’s not too bad. running on aspen fuel, starts first time every time auto tune works great.
  20. i was thinking the smaller F150 dodge 1500 as being a good compromise. bigger than a navara/hilux but not huge and weighty so cant carry as much. the dually’s are wicked but would need taco converting to allow the weight to be properly used?
  21. i have the tree motion lite ( might be called something else) and find it fits my skinny frame well 31” waist.
  22. Yeah probably not something as big as that duelly twin wheeler thing! Insurance didn’t look too bad, f150/250 even older dodge ram 1500 have bigger beds, more space inside and can tow 3t easily plus appear to be stronger built than European trucks. With ebay etc sourcing parts shouldn’t be hard these days. cheers for the info guys!
  23. I have a older 4.0 v6 ford explorer 4x4 that came along silly cheap already, tows like a dream but can’t chip into it obviously, did consider removing the rear seats and boxing out the back but unsure... needs to be a pickup so i can do smaller jobs with just that and chipper rather than 2 vehicles
  24. Spec for money on the second hand ones looks pretty good, plus they seem bomb proof, big unstressed engines and designed to tow silly weights in America compared to our limits in the uk. Almost the American landy with added comfort?
