Was actually reducing a 100ft long hedge/tree holly today at the gf’s dads. TPO covers the big beast in the middle - prob 24” ish at waist height and taller than the oaks and syc’s also on TPO’s and old. tree officer was fine for me to knock 20ft out of the rest of it to let some light in (did a crown raise and thin last year) Anything i need a chainsaw to cut is tree in my book!

With all due respect what’s carbon foot print got to do with the lad talking about toxic fish farming? i get people need jobs but not at the extent of killing off native fish stocks and feeding people potentially health damaging food. this is a forum for tree cutters, let’s face it none of us can say we are carbon neutral, unless you live off grid, cut trees with an axe and long saw and never touch man made items/burn anything!

in theory anyone suffering a saw cut whilst up a tree will be tied in twice so unless they have the ability and calm sense to unclip their lanyard you will need someone to go up...

i recon you could put together a kit a lot cheaper... sling, krab, some sort of decsender, rope, krab to casualty etc

Nicely written, we like to play in the mountain be it on bikes, boards, ropes or just hiking and sometimes i stop and think what if... had a very narrow escape from a plateau clearing avalanche when out hiking in Tignes mid May as i had not walked into the 10ft deep channel due to stopping to get my camera out my bag as i was 50ft from a chamois on the other side of the channel ( you can’t normally get anywhere near them so he knew the avy was coming) 3mins of pouring snow that blocked the road just below tignes le brevieres and some new pants later i carried on. roughly 2km square of snow had slid. if i was literally seconds further ahead i wouldn’t be here. Air ambulance and mountain rescue have saved a couple of mates lives, worth supporting. checkout a tv series called ‘the horn’ on Netflix about mountain rescue on the matterhorn

I used to be able to do them, ( winter in france rock climbing loads) but with full PPE and a saw and ropes hanging off me, not a chance!

Damage to trailer unless it’s a big farm style trailer, unless you slow the wood down well first ( thinking speedlining rigging now though)

Avoid gas less like the plague! horrible to weld with even worse to learn on. get a proper mig and if it’s a none critical weld use pub gas co2. cheap i used to pay £5 for a waist height bottle

try using a different friction knot, try the VT or similar. climbingarborist.com has some good instructional videos. can be tied on a length of cord, just tie your own eyes in each end.

i get that you are new, i only do this part time currently but i come here to learn and try to take stuff in not throw abuse around which looking at the video doesn’t paint a decent pic. i hope you know the client as that much messing about and lack of actual work doesn’t look great buddy. new kit, rec climb and learn it without the work pressure. i rec climbed till i was comfortable up a tree before even taking a silky up. intrigued as to how much you charged on this gig. hope you find a rhythm and some good weather to finish it off this week climb safe

rips with an 18” can’t see 20 being a problem. Have a 24” and it pulls this well.

Start warm... lived in the Alps for 3 winters so pretty used to cold weather. Found if i kept my outer gear in the flat and warm i stayed warm. getting out of a toasty truck, then changing into kit that’s chilly just drops your body tempt. down jackets for the truck offloading (too fragile for working) and talking with the owner. decent single layer gloves, latex ones will make your hands sweaty if your not careful which softens the skin and leads to easier nicks and cuts.

I would SRT for that using as high a tie in point as you could get. they just redirect through branch forks. if you get up high on the left branch fork,you should be able to swing to the other side. lanyard in then move your main climbing line over?

Nice truck! good way to spend the money. i have an F150 itch to scratch next, older one as i don’t have 45k to spend haha. how close together are the trees? if you were SRT i would say anchor into tree 1, then swing to tree 2, add in a sling with krab redirect and so on. till you get to the end. work backwards to tree 1 allowing easy access to each tree. drt, never really tried redirects as the friction gets too much. Are they close enough together to swing? 2nd rope fired into the 2nd tree, base tie then take it up with you, pull yourself over? get your ground guy to repeat it with tree 3 and send the end up to you, pull along again?

foot ascender, cheap and you will want to move to srt even if only for access. way easier on the body. have to ask, what did the 50k buy?!

only thing with 200ltr drums is insurance and safe storage as that’s a big drum of flammable liquid. not sure on the rules of this

we pay £3.60 a litre inc vat etc. 25l drums make sense.

according to aspens website, not yet available in the uk.. any ideas on when it might be?

drill and bolt with the 2part chemical goo? no expansion and bomb proof.. my gun safe is bolted to the wall using them and the copper inspecting it said if they get the safe off then they will make a doorway into next door!
