  2. Do tell us the supplier ??
  3. Do you have a side view of that chain, ? cheers
  4. I was just adding some more info to the table, so peeps can pick and choose what want to put on there plate to try. and so to find out what they like. After all we cut wood, and I’m sure we all want the sharpest knife at the table ? ...So to speak ??
  5. I will put this here, for the benefit of the peeps that no know better
  6. I was wondering about this....I'm glad you got the lo pro sprocket. No snappy chains @westphalian as of yet ? ?? cheers
  7. Could you give more info on the bar size and chain pitch/gauge cheers
  8. My thoughts are free,? as well is my time. I prefer chainsaw to tv and its always good to try help others. and this leads me on. To your vid, good vid by the way. I took some screen shots here and there. I’ve marked the bits which have similar marks on the underside of the tie straps. I don’t know for sure (maybe someone else could chime in on this) but could these marks be the weakening area from the previous 3/8 sprocket. I’ve never seen marks like this on the underside of the tie strap before. and also there in the same place ie behind the tang.. Ratman you beat me to it ? I was typing and marking the screen shots.
  9. If you look closely, you can see the rivit heads of the tie strap are Different to the rest. One or both rivits, as I can’t remember that well, was over tight which resulted in the tie strap fracturing. you can guess I was happy to find it while I was sharpening the chain. I recon if I’d done another cut it would have snapped. Edit: on the other side as well. anyhow back to Your chain snapping. I'm wondering if all the stresses of you using it before with the std 3/8 sprocket has weakened it and now it’s showing. I have noticed another mark in your Pics, but cannot see the rest of the chain to see if it’s more uniform thing (ie drive sprocket damage) i guess One way to find out if your chains haven been weakened, is to use a brand never been used new chain.
  10. Here’s something to look at. This chain was new only used a few times. I’ve marked it with a red arrow. Why do you think this happened .....?. Btw. It’s a oregan std 3/8 ripping chain.
  11. I’ve read that ivy will live on a tree/with the tree, BUT....will kill the tree if left for long enough. Be it by breaking branches due to the weight or stopping the tree photosynthesising because it overwhelms the trees leaves Sod the squirrels nests and the pigeons, and as the op said plenty more on the estate. cheers
  12. Also could over tight, it looks like where I marked 1 it’s got a fracture starting, 2, is domed and different to the rest of the rivit heads. 3 looks a bit the same as 2 and A bit tight ?. 4 looks a bit peened or just bashed. thats my first observations
  13. Somthing is wrong here with these chains. give me a bit of time, as just about to munch my lunch. ???
  14. Was there some in the nptc rigging notes guidelines. i will see if I can find them ahh found it it the free fall nptc notes. page 11 23fab854e871401095aec1de0c95ff84.pdf
  15. As your worried about the tree you could cut a bit with the silky then get the rest with some long handle pruning loppers, cutting chunks out so you can get into it more just attacking as much as you can safely get to is better than leaving it but that does look a long slow job, it’s been there for sometime
  16. Ivy adds a lot of weight, as it contains a lot of water, it can make problems for trees if it’s not kept in check every so often. the thing I’ve seen is cutting it at the base of the tree with a silky and making a gap of about a foot. It then dies I'm sure others will chime in on other methods
