  1. Awesome Graham! Thanks for sharing. Would love to pop up some time and have a nosy.
  2. Woodland trust also says this; What does holly look like? Overview: mature trees can grow up to 15m and live for 300 years.
  3. This is one of the Hollys out front of my house. Sure looks like a tree to me.
  4. Ive found the site super slow these last few days. Some private messages have come through twice etc.
  5. You could say the same for Norway but not many bother.
  6. Thanks for the heads up. A lot of info I need there. What did you mean regarding the part about wind?
  7. Time to pull up your Big Boy Pants. The real world sure aint School where you're forced to learn. You wanna better yourself then its all up to you. The only motivation you need is more ££££ in the bank and providing a better life for you and your family. If that aint enough and you're still struggling then Id question your whole work ethic. Digging ditches yes, a job where you'll need to continually learn? Nope.
  8. Would love to give this a go one day! Looks like hard but satisfying work. Also, something that I would make a complete dogs dinner of but still..
  9. So, going back to Nut Trees in the UK, Scotland specifically. Is this a no-no? Do they not fruit as expected? I was hoping for Walnut, Hazel and Chestnut.
  10. Thats very much like my friends Walled Garden. The Trees are along the walls though. Looks beautiful. What a lovely job to have.
  11. How do I contact Graham? I managed to fine one 'Graham' but it was the wrong one.
  12. Cant help with Switzerland but Ive worked in Norway for 10 years now. As you rightly pointed out the pay is high but cost of living is higher. You'd really need to spend a lot of time weighing up what this supposedly good wage will actually earn you in Switzerland. You'll also need to factor in moving expenses and potentially moving over with very little and having to buy everything over there. Is the rent high? Remember you'll need at least the same again in a deposit etc etc. When I moved to Norway for what was classed as a Workshop Technicians position at £36,000 a year plus kids in a private School I thought I was made. In reality this was a fairly low wage and impossible to live on without my Wife also working full time. This was 10 years ago as I mentioned. There is a number of ex-pat websites, might be worth joining up and either asking a few questions there or having a snoop around?
  13. A friend of mine has a really old walled garden that has walls over 15 foot high. There's ancient fruit frees around the inside and out. In the walls there's fires and chimneys. I was told this is to keep the trees warm in the winter.
  14. The hedge and the much taller Cherry Trees behind. But was fruiting well before I hacked at it. Ok, so lop the higher sections off? What about all the water shoots?
  15. Thanks for the reply. The Tree in question is old, Im guessing at least 30 years (not that old in general Apple Tree terms though.) Good to know about the two year period till it starts fruiting again. Guess the coming season will be a good indicator. Any tips on what to do with my tree now?
  16. With two burners do you find your constantly collecting wood from the store?
  17. We cant? I fancied planting a few Nut Trees when I clear the small patch of woodland out that back of my house. Fruit Trees as well obviously.
  18. This is whats happened to my Apple tree after my attempt at pruning. So a sub-forum on here would be great. The Apple Tree was interfering with the Telephone cable so it had to come back a fair bit after countless years of neglect. Two years later all I have are these watershoots as you call them. Now I know what their called I can now investigate how/if I can remedy it and start getting some apples again.
  19. Thanks for the heads-up. Who or what is fuelwood? Is it a website? Cheers.
  20. Cant help but hello from the N.E of Scotland as well.
  21. The house Im renting has 6 chimneys. We should be buying it by the Summer. Currently we use two, looking forward to breaking back into the boarded up ones. A couple in the bedrooms and what looks like a sizable one in the kitchen. Cant wait.
