  1. Cheers stihl. I'm not worried about the climbing as such, just don't know if I'll be able to take all the information in as im a complete newbie! Such as knots and different techniques. I belive the best way to learn is to just try it and learn from your mistakes but as it is an expensive training course dont want to fail and have to pay out again!
  2. Thank you all!! I was already planning on buying TTCC book on payday so that will definitely be a purchase and will get some rope from work and practice away. I spend a few hours every night staring blankly at the TV while our lass watches the soaps anyway so at least I'll have something to fiddle with now Any more advice on what I could do to help me along with practicing the knots? Many thanks
  3. Hi guys, I have no experience of climbing at all either in an arboriculture role or just as a hobby but im wanted to get my CS 38/39 tickets. My problem isn't with the climbing but with the ropes, making knots etc. I'm not very good at tieing (struggle with my boot laces ) and keep thinking this will cause a problem on the course. I obviously know I will be shown the correct methods and such on the course but I don't know wheather it will be to much for me what with all the different climbing methods, knots, equipment used etc. Ive been trying to learn as much as I can reading the threads on here and the Internet but it doesn't compare to the real thing! Basically I want to get the tickets but doubting my abilities, any advice?
  4. Yeah the ad in the OP is looking for quotes on said tree but has worded the ad shockingly! The second one is just taking the piss and looking at getting a job done for free:thumbdown:
  5. Had to scrape windscreen once so far this/last year but can see it turning colder in next few weeks. Said to our lass just before Xmas that it wil snow (or just be more wintery) in Jan and Feb then what it would in Dec.
  6. Would love to but love the cold, wind and rain to much. Also can't beat going to work in the dark, working in bleak weather then coming home in dark
  7. Are you sure these are genuine emails and not spam or some sort of scam? However if the logs are radioactive they may burn hotter
  8. Amazon for all my books and dvd's (arb related or not)
  9. Good call there /\/\/\/\ No worries about them been pinched or falling off then. Also 24/7 advertising even when van is parked up
  10. 99.7 for Diesel 99.9 for Petrol That's at morrisons Sheffield. No where else comes close to been as cheap as that around here.
  11. Can't you do both? I'd personally prefer the old paper route as, like mentioned, you can just flick through it and find the date your looking for easy as pie. Keep the diary write down whatever you need in there and also put in on the linked calenders as back up
  12. At least you get your 99p back on collection
  13. Same here. Every other click it's coming up.
  14. That's going to be my route. Use my wages to pay for training then hopefully, when fully qualified, get more and more private work in and then eventually set up on my own.
  15. To me as soon as somebody enters your property without your consent then your families lives are at risk! Also if he wanted to saw half way through his ladders steps why shouldn't he? They are his ladders on his property. However, I understand why he was charged because of the situation (they were running away and were shot from behind) but the guy had just had enough of scum breaking into his property taking his stuff!
  16. No pics, but watched a couple of movies with young un before his bedtime then watched a few episodes of Alaska: the last frontier with a couple of green goblin ciders now off to bed myself. Happy new year everyone.

Very interesting thread for me this. I'm 25, got a 4 year old boy, mortgage, lass, car, bills etc. etc. to pay for and also thinking about setting up on my own. However, I currently work for a company and get paid a very decent wage that, combined with our lasses wage, gives us a fair amount of spending money each! The main problem I face is getting a good client base to keep the money coming in. Ive gradually bought the tools and im also saving up for courses (woodchipper, climbing) to add to my CV. Hopefully all this will help but still doesn't guarantee a successful business! My main point is at this stage of my life I need to make a choice weather to take a risk and set up on my own or stay working where I am and see if I can advance further there!?
  18. Too true mate, the law is way to lieneant on theives imo. Someone breaks into my property they are putting mine and my families lives at risk and im going to do whatever is nessecairy to protect them!
  19. Damn I know I'd be appreciative if somebody did that for me and would definitely stay working for them for a good few years until I'd repaid my debts at least. As mentioned though the problem is finding a decent lad or lass to take on in the first place!
  20. I use about 2gb every month in winter but rarely use 1gb in summer
  21. Thanks for the replies guys. I would still sharpen by hand whilst out on the job,and even occasionally at home, but if I also had a sharpener at home it would just make it quicker and easier to do, so do you have any more recommendations of which sharpeners to be looking at? Cheers.
  22. I have the hand files and know how to use them ( though I'm no master) and would probably still do hand-filing from time to time just looks a lot quicker and easier with one of these sharpeners.
  23. Which one would you recommend? My guess would be that most of you do it manually but with so many options out there at reasonable prices thought I'd get myself one. So any recommendations from you guys? Cheers.
