  1. I can't open link either.
  2. Great, second day on the forum and learnt something new again! Cheers NFG. Think I need to stop worrying about bar size as much too. So a good saw just need to make sure it has been looked after in the right way, cheers.
  3. How good (or bad) are the Husqvarna 345 saws? I can get a second hand one for £100 with an 18" bar fitted. Belive it is a 45cc engine and wouldn't go any bigger bar wise but again read some bad reviews about this saw, so what's your opinions on it? Thanks Midge.
  4. A bit out of my price range that one. I understand the more I pay the more saw I will get but only looking to spend around £150-170, hence why I was looking at second hand saws.
  5. The ECHO isn't new it's second hand. The husky would be brand new.
  6. It is a great place to learn, I've only been a member for 1 day and already learnt more about engines and bar lengths.
  7. Are conifers not as easy to cut down as they look then? Or is it more the cleaning up that's makes it hard?
  8. That's exactly why I joined! Plus the answers you get from forums generally make sense in plain English where as on t'Internet its sometimes hard to understand (Yes, I do know the forum is still technicaly the internet)
  9. Thank you all again for the amazing replies! I'm going to wait and find out more about the sthil saw before making a decision but I certainly have some thinking to do now I know more about the ECHO.
  10. I will do, but in 99% my posts I will be asking questions or for some sort of help!
  11. Thanks for all the warm welcomes people, hopefully will get to know you all better soon!
  12. Thanks for all the prompt replies, really appreciated. Suppose the ECHO would be best but was a bit apprehensive of buying a second hand saw as ive seen a lot of people on varies forums saying they would never buy second hand equipment. I can understand why, but as long as everything is in good order and the saw has been used and maintained correctly I don't see a problem. Sthilmadasever would that be because the engine is not powerful enough for that size bar? I'm not totally clueless as I use chainsaws at work, as ive said in a separate thread in The Lounge, I just don't have years of experience and don't know much mechanical wise. I do know about maintenance though!
  13. Hey guys and girls, I'm sure you get fed up of these type of questions but as a newbie I need some advice! I'm looking at getting my own saw and got a choice of 3 within my budget. 1) A second hand ECHO cs 420-es 2) A brand new husqvarna 236 (with free starter kit ) 3) A stihl. Unfortunately won't know what model etc. until Tuesday. Obviously a brand new saw is better then a second hand one but the husky is only a 14" bar where as the ECHO is an 18". From a quick Google search there doesn't seem to be much difference stats wise between the ECHO and Husky and also seems to be mixed reviews for the 236 where as ECHO have more good then bad reviews. I would be using the saw for private jobs so would prefer the bigger bar and chain so I'm covered for all types of jobs I may get. Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated and when I find more info out about the stihl I shall let you know.
  14. Hi. Couldn't find any other section to put this in so just thought I'd post in here. I've have very limited knowledge in arboriculture and have only been using chainsaws properly for the past few weeks but held my license for approx 2 years. I did the week long course at TKF training, courtesy of work, to gain the NPTC Level 2 award(felling trees upto 380mm) I work as a grounds maintenance opreative for Amey so the chance to use chainsaws is very limited but im looking at getting my own saw for personal use so be prepared for many amuture questions! That's is all for now, Midge.
