Thanks Matty, probably why it's so expensive then! Had a quick shop around and can get it for £30

Thanks guys, i just eant to learn more about trees in general really and work towards be coming an arborist. So think my next purchase will be The Tree Climbers Companion as I have no experience at all climbing and if it is simple it should be a good start!

Definitely going to get at least 1 out of the other 3 I want next month too, just not sure which one yet.

Arrived today to get me started. Seems like a decent little book to have around if you quickly need to identify a tree. Really impressed
  5. Oo yes, I'd rather be up that way then down south. Suppose it's not bad been in middle either
  6. Nearly got as much as me there
  7. Which end of the country would you rather be at?
  8. It's definitely time to jump!
  9. Nice bike Hodge. I nearly went out today but after working in the p*ssing down rain all day yesterday I gave it a pass. Maybe next week on a local loop
  10. Iv have a cs 420-es, which is a nice little saw. I'd like more Echo equipment (hedge cutters, blower, strimmer etc.) but as I can't afford to buy new, and there isn't much second hand Echo stuff about, isn't going to happen anytime soon!
  11. Cheers guys. So its about having a good relationship with a local dealer, thats why people were saying it was wrong to go try the stuff on in HB and then go buy else where as the local dealer will be losing out on business?
  12. Which is fair enough and I wouldn't give advice I know nothing about but if you could get, let's say a pair of chainsaw boots, from HB for £100 but a quick Google search says you can get them else where for £70 where would you buy them from? Or as I previously said am I'm missing something here? If I'd gone in the shop and somebody had spent 2 hours with me helping me pick the best PPE for me then yes I'd feel a c*nt going somewhere else and would buy from said shop that helped me. However, if I just went in had a look, see what I liked, what fits etc. then found the cheapest price online I'd buy from wherever was cheapest.
  13. Maybe I'm missing something here as im new to the arboriculture world. Is honey brothers a large company or a small independent firm? If it's only a small business then yes it would be a bit ****, but your not obliged to buy something in every shop you go in. For example, I could go to JD sports and see a pair of trainers I like for £50, then go to footlocker and get same trainers for £40, then go on Internet and get them for £30 which I'd then buy as they are the cheapest. Surely this would be same for PPE? (Sorry if this post doesnt makes sense btw!)
  14. Don't know if this is any good or not but.... Arborist Complete Climbing KIT Petzl Harness Rope BAG Prusik Carabiners | eBay
  15. Why is it? It's only like going to view a car at your closest dealer but then finding it cheaper elsewhere online. Also if the OP is just starting out and is short on money that is the best advice he has been given so far in my opinion!
  16. Is chasing a 4 year old around classed as a hobby but other then playing with my son, I play football 3 times a week and I'm trying g to get back out on the MTB. So football and mountain biking are my hobbies.
  17. That's why this is one of my favorite adverts, so simple but true.
  18. Like everybody else has said don't buy second hand PPE!!
  19. Well said there. I currently work with a lad who used to work for a tree firm and he told me if his team couldn't get to a job or didn't have time to do it etc. they would recomend another firm and vice versa. Personally that is also how I would work. If I turned up to a job I couldn't do, didn't have time to do or thought it was to big a job I'd recommend somebody who could do it, we all need to make a living so theres no point been a d*ck about it and I'd like to think people would do the same back for me!
  20. Had bee's flying around earlier near a shrub we was working on!
  21. I'm no expert but something like echo cs 310es or stihl ms 171 should be enough just for chopping firewood.
  22. ........this week I'm just kidding, I don't even know what boots mine are never mind any others!!
  23. Think I have the pair you are talking about. Class 2 type C protection, the only area that isn't heavely padded on them is the butt cheeks If these are the ones you were originally talking about I think they are pretty decent if expensive. Quite heavy but still breathable and can work in them all day comfortable enough. Please note though that I don't do tree work so wouldn't be able to comment on how they are for climbing etc. but not sure if these are climbing trousers as they seem to heavy for that!
