  1. Hiking sandals aren't flip flops.. design has moved on over the years..... And, Husqvarna aren't shyte, I never said that?.. I just said Stih are better... for me anyways, dealer network not two minutes down the street..
  2. Right on Stubby, I know best... don't you forget it!!!!!!!.. My own philosophy on being out in the great outdoors is to keep it simple.. less is more.. and, if you're gonna be gettin scratched up an have scree whack away at your ankles, I suggest you keep away from such areas till you have your wits about you... What, with your worry for twisted ankles and scree blasting you around the legs at every turn, I'm wondering if you should be out in the hills in the first place... Perhaps a dog for you, it might be a safer option.. a dog, a local park, a half hr walk... much better for one as clumsy as you..
  3. Can't comment on grousing as I've never done it, nor ever want to, I prefer to see my grouse gettin on in the world not flying around dodging shotgun pellets.. My argument is also about getting your feet wet as well.. do you attempt to keep your feet dry or accept they're gonna get wet but make preparation in that regards.. IE, so my feet are pissed through, but so what, with these sandals they'll be dry again in a minute.. As to mountain rescue teams, set in their ways no doubt.. like anyone else who wears boots, not up to scratch on footwear evolution of the last three decades.. What does an ultra runner wear?.. boots? I think not, what do fell runners wear, boots, I think not.. you'd think a fell runner would be cautious on account of his ankles gettin twisted every minute on the fells but no, they elect to use running shoes for a reason.. Can you think why a fell runner wears running shoes and not boots?..
  4. marvelous, instead of getting wet through from the outside, you'll sauna your feet from the inside..
  5. If your walking around half the day grousing I suppose a pair of wellies might suffice, but if your talking distance then running shoes or hiking sandals.. with sandals, you get your feet pissed through an five minutes later they're dry again.. try drying a pair of boots out in five minutes?.. If you walked forty miles in a day in a pair of boots, might of added half a ton of weight to your trip by the time you've done... Unless I was doin nothing more than half a dozen miles I'd plumb for running shoes over boots every time..
  6. you might want to strengthen your ankles then.. sounds like they're not up to the job.. My advice is do all you can to lower your weight when in the hills. clothing footwear and peripherals.. less chance of injury if your minds on the walk and not on how nackered you are because you're overladen with heavy boots and clothing..
  7. bear in mind your boots are what make you less nimble to begin with, even a few ounces extra make a difference at the end of the day... Its why for the most part most hikers on the Appalachian Trail have discarded boots in favour of running shoes... and the Appalachian way is a couple of thousand miles over vale, hill, and mountain.. It seems to me that Boots are a hangover from last century, when other footwear just wasn't available.. time to move on with the times and get something extremely lightweight and versatile..
  8. After many hrs of research it dawned on me that what matters is comfort over anything else.. In that regards I'd go for running shoes.. proper ones.. very breathable to help sweating feet and comfy as well.. dry easy to boot.. Its a misconception that boots are better, its just an old school argument that hasn't gone away... how many times has anyone ever seen someone walking down a hill with a broken ankle?... like that swan that breaks your arm..
  9. hahah I'm the same Khriss, don't know whether to laugh at the stories or feel sorry for the poor blokes who just turned up to a job an ended up on here as subjects of ridicule.. I mean I'm sure we've all done somethin dumb here an there..
  10. Ah, scissors, now why didn't I think of that!!... could of saved my finger from three weeks of throbbing and catchin it every now and then... I should of opened it with one of these knives and not the blunt """unt I had to hand...
  11. I did exactly what the climbing orborist did myself the other month. only it wasn't a silky but a sharp knife.. bought a knife from ASDA the sharp ones?... took it home tried to remove the plastic coating but it wasn't havin it, so I gets another knife to slice off the top part to allow access.. only I sliced the plastic cover so hard it pulled out the knife from its wrapping and that Fker sliced my bloody index finger some... blood everywhere... The point being I was impatient and annoyed I couldn't open the damn thing myself without havin to be messed about by havin to go to a level two attempt.. so my impatience got the better of me and I opened the thing in a rage.. I'm sure the climbing arborist was in the same state of mind when he pulled at his silky... the moral of the story is, calm down, think on a minute then tackle the problem when your heads right..
  12. Cameron went to Europe to negotiate a deal to appease the scumbag brexiteers in his party, just as Theresa May has been blackmailed by them.. These muppets don't give a shit about anyone or anyone else, all they care about is themselves.. the narcissistic scum want it all to be about them. as long as its about them, they wont give a crap if the country burns to the ground.. If we leave europe with a hard brexit, I'll give it two years before all these traitors are hiding down in their basements.. set of ne'er do wells that they are..
  13. Once a week Matelot!!.. Be a fine thing if I got to do it once a month, well if I'm gonna go out my way I'd say It'd be would be nice to actually get to fkin do it all.. hahahaha once a week.
  14. Well you might make that argument, but, I do know what would of happened if we hadn't voted to leave Europe.. Nothin, nothin would of happened.. but now we're in a guessing game as to what the future holds... Hows that for stable governance?.. hows that for a bedrock to build a stable economy on?.. what a set of numpties.
  15. Yes well, if we're gonna split hairs it was a Jar, not a box...
  16. Very funny, just like I predicted a spring election, oh, and said on the night of the referendum that Cameron would be gone by the morning.. Did I mention Boris, I knew on the morning of his bowing out the leadership race he was gonna fold..
  17. No no one knows what will happen but it might be guessed what might happen.. for instance, breaking up institutions leads to fragmentation.. Look whats happening Spain, take a look at the Kurds.. you think Britain leaving the EU is all about us?.. We've let Pandora out the box, better hope she gets back in before things really hit the fan..
  18. Bit of reading in my spare time LOL's.. I wish it was a bit of reading in my spare time. I think I may have OCD when it copes to subjects that interest me.. If Its of interest I tend to rake over ever tit bit on the subject.. read reams and reams of articles on a subject... I wouldn't want to write down everything I have to say on a subject, otherwise I might be here till kingdom come.. I have to condense into a few sentences what otherwise should be an essay the length of the bible.. Just take it for granted I know what I'm talking about... if I say its gonna end up bad, believe me, its gonna end up bad..
  19. What some people don't understand is the damage to Britain PLC if we leave Europe without a deal.. I'm torn myself between wanting the hardest brexit possible or whether to root for the remainers and hope they can stifle the whole business.. On the one hand, we voted brexit so deserve all it brings down on us.. on the other, I don't see why half the country who had any kind of grievance should expect the remainers to suffer economically just because they wanted to punish the establishment.. I think a good chunk of brexiteers voted for brexit because of immigration, something they wouldn't be so bothered about if they did their duty and actually did some breeding of their own.. How many of the numpties who voted for brexit have got more than three children?.. or at least three children.. in fact a thoughts just crossed my mind.. root out all the voters who voted brexit and cancel out every vote if the people didn't have three or more children... I mean thats the real issue isn't it, we have to import half the scum of the third world because our own waste of space population can't be bothered to breed..
  20. It ain't the EU you should be worrying about if you're a hardline brexiteer, its the remainers in the Tory Party.. They mean to wreck brexit from within.. I didn't understand it at first, not havin a clue about how parliament works an all but they're gonna get the brexiteers with the small print.. IE amendments.. Its gonna be great fun watching things unfold as the next few months pass...
  21. At the moment I'd be more concerned about brexit ever taking place if I was you. Whats happened to the great repeal bill?..
  22. Thats some sad news Stefan, hope you can comfort your friend in some way..
  23. get some methylated spirits, easy enough to come by. then get yourself a trangia stove.. you can chop a baked bean tin down to half inch, pour your meths into that and use it as a stove, or even a coca cola tin for that matter..
  24. Looks like somethin to chop peat up?.. what with the way its mounted its not meant be used for chopping wood, it'd break off after a chop or two..
  25. Didn't I say I don't mind being proved wrong?... show me evidence and I'll gladly concede defeat...
