  1. Saddle...??? You riding horses big boy..? We brits call em harnesses
  2. Please dont touch a 135...it will taint your opinion of husqvarna chainsaws...
  3. Dont think 346 available new anymore. You could pick one up 2nd hand but id say dont...most of the good 346's are guarded by loving owners...like me
  4. Oooh thats saw porn. Ive got a 346xp myself run it on a 15" bar...it makes me smile...best 50cc saw ive came across..(that sounded a bit sexual)
  5. I had a little 180 for god knows how long,i got it off an old fella for 80quid in great nick.I never serviced that saw in at least 3 years and it started easily and happy buried its little 12 inch bar through stuff a 251 would bog down in.. When it died i almost lost my manliness and cried. Just great little saws
  6. If its only small stuff and it has to be stihl id recommend a stihl ms 180. 2bhp can run a 12 or 14 " bar and its all mechanical so no fancy electronic settings that go tits up after 6 weeks. Avoid the 181, seen 2 go pop in the last year back and forth to the manufacturer.
  7. Ms 241...best "little" saw around. Hardy, ballsy and easy to start/run. Ms181's are ok but bulky and heavy for the 2bhp output as for the 251 its gutless unless on a 14" bar. Ms 241 is a great saw. Does it have to be stihl or would you conscider other brands? Echo or husqvarna..
  8. So in a bid to ressurect this thread id like to know who's been running zz+ rw for a good while and the system/setup you use. Long/short tether Double leg or single leg tether Attatchment of tether to zz via biner/shackle or attatchment to biner on bridge. Pro's cons etc. Ive been tryin now and again to use zz and wr but i dont get many big open trees that merit it so my experience is limited. Tia
  9. Just remembered i had to send a petzl biner back as it wasnt locking properly. I was using it on my zillon lanyard...dunno how long it wasnt locking properly...makes you think about equipment you assume is working properly but isnt. Maybe i'll chuck the climbing too steve!!
  10. Not really lately but awhile back, start of the year i was rigging down a poplar, had my block set up,anchored in etc and i was taking quite a sizeable chunk of a lateral. As the chunk dropped i realised the rigging rope was running against my rope. Shit myself but i got off with it cause i pulled my lanyard tighter to take the strain off my mainline.Could easily have burned through my mainline if it was a heaver chunk of wood and run for couple of seconds longer.. Still cant quite understand how it happened.Ive noticed all the little near misses ive had are in the afternoon later in the week- tiredness is a major factor
  11. I stopped tryin to retreive my pulley saver or cambium saver from the deck ages ago.Had em get stuck too many times..its just safer to climb up to it and and enjoy the fast rope down. Why you chuckin the climbing steve?
  12. I hang it on my harness by the handle. After a while you dont even knock the tip of the bar with your elbow anymore
  13. It would seem sense of humour does not apply here...i'll get me coat
  14. Good for you stefan, stay positive mate.
  15. Dont mean to sound like a heartless prick but dont cut at neck height and dont one hand except at full arms reach with the saw at 90° to your body. Our industry is inherintly dangerous and a simple 'lapse' can end in tragedy but we can significantly reduce the risk of kickback or chainsaw injuries by not one handing. Ive done it myself so im by no means a smart arse.
  16. Skyland equipment are in liverpool. Check em out
  17. Chainsaw trousers obviously but I run hot so a base layer(usually berghaus) with a t shirt over it and a fleece of some description.I take my fleece off when i climb. When its wet its a base layer and t shirt with a waterproof jacket of choice-usually an outdoor branded number. Warm months chainsaw trousers type A with a t shirt.
  18. Its the opposite up here in central scotland.Hardly any part time/weekend work about and any that is are offering 10 quid an hour for sectional fells. I wouldnt groundie for a tenner an hour...
  19. Red pfanners for daily use although they dont last that long but for a fiver a pair u could say theyre reasonably priced.
  20. Sorry for the thread derail here but has anyone tried the courant hitch cord?
  21. Try michoacan hitch https://youtu.be/g4J6L-oEt9g
  22. As an la worker myself and have used srt id say-its fine to use as long as its fit for purpose(which it is)... But if owt goes tits up... u aint seen me right!
  23. Alcohol abuse was rife in the forces in my day, everyone drank its indemic in the system. The real problem is when guys hit sivvy street..theres no support structure put in place for those who need it,it would seem ptsd is rife in those returning from operations. Im 100% behind remembering those who payed the ultimate price in giving there lives in the wars and by no means mean to distract from that but im angry our ex forces guys and gals are being ignored by our government and the MOD
  24. The trick is getting the right hitch to match the hitch cord.I tried the VT-too much fannying around dressing it Distel tended to bind up unless the hitch cord was a bit "fluffy" Try the knut or the michoacan(think thats how to spell it) Both worked for me. Are you using a pinto type pulley or the dmm triple hole pulley?
