  1. Ah, now we're getting to the bones of it. The bottom one is square ground, i suspected that to be the case. Closer up pic...
  2. Are you sure you've got them the right way round?
  3. He did say "carré" which translates as square.
  4. Ahh, thanks, you still use a round file though right?
  5. There are certain areas of this job where there are huge (and rather embarrassing) gaps in my knowledge. Chains are one of them. So I was getting some new ones for the 201s and the guy said "oh I see you have Demi rond" which is I presume half chisel, "you don't want full carré?" Which I presume is full chisel. So I plumped for one of each and will road test them a bit later this week for your delectation. Although if any have you have any observations on their respective performance, I'm all ears. He said that full chisel is faster but harder to sharpen, is he right? What do you guys swear by? Here's a pic of the two chains side by side.
  6. The great shame about boxing is that its now all pay per view. Back in the days when ITV used to show a lot I was an avid viewer. Wouldn't dream of paying to watch a bout that could be over in seconds. Although I hear this was a decent fight.
  7. Great chippers fo'sho' Forst are developing a sub 750 chipper according to the blurb they email me.
  8. I sold my non tipper Ifor 10x5 for €2000, €200 less than I paid for it 7 years previously! Got a tipper, paid €8000 all in all. Crazy money but there you go. I've been carry at least 2.5 tonnes of wood on it. It like having a 7.5tonne lorry.
  9. Been thinking about the mill/tree story. Like a lot of folks they didn't want to pay a tree surgeon to clear the trees on the slope above the building. Figured they'd be quids in by "selling" the wood.
  10. Meh, I don't believe much of that. First of all they say they wanted someone to cut back trees, then it transpires the forester was paying them money for the wood. Grind the stumps out and seed some grass. (It's the Daily Mail lest we forget)
  11. Exciting times anyway, congratulations.
  12. Would it be possible to give the bloke some sensible advice and not lecture him about taking down his own tree?
  13. Difficult to be "nice" to a grinder.
  14. It is truly terrible advice. Many people (myself included) had trouble getting high in a tree at first, with some training and perseverance I managed it.
  15. You could keep it with heavy pruning, it would be an eyesore imo. I'd have it out and plant a few others nearby.
  16. Ha ha! I thought that, still got mine:001_smile:
  17. You want a team of huskies, two pulleys, a transgender Inuit and some pickled beetroot.
  18. Don't take too much off, you wouldn't want to ruin that lovely shape!
  19. If you read through this thread you'll get lots of info on the hollow ground/flat ground question.
