  1. I have a combination of Husky, Stihl and Oregon kicking about, all plastic. Love the wee Husky one for longevity. The medium sized Stihl ones are decent enough, and the Stihl highlights are just mega. Someone I follow on Instagram was using these recently, and they looked decent but I haven’t use them personally. I will be ordering some at some point though, they do three sizes. 2. I’m still working, but doing 3 days a week to help out at home with the baby. I am continuing to do so, as I don’t qualify for the governments helps schemes as my company hasn’t been established long enough. Doing 3 days a week is adequate to stop me from going under. I work alone using my compact forwarder, in privately owned woodlands with no public access or right of ways to worry about. I see the forestry manager of the estate infrequently and we adhere to all guidelines regarding social distancing when we do chat. When I’m finished work I go home, strip in the garage and then go straight for a shower. None of my work gear comes into the house, and all my bait box etc are washed in the dishwasher. I take what I feel to be all the correct precautions to prevent the virus coming into my house, whilst also maintaining a functioning business. I can’t think of a better profession to practice social distancing and self isolation than forestry! I appreciate the points raised about accidents, and I am extra careful when using the machine normally anyway. However, I need to find a living from somewhere, and feel on balance me doing what I am doing is acceptable. Biomass/wood chip still needs supplying. I still need to earn. Some will disagree, but that’s life.
  3. It was indeed good to get the two machines working in harmony (for the most part!)
  4. I didn’t do anything specific with my Instagram, it has just grown organically for the most part. I was offered some sort of incentive by them so I had one of my posts “boosted”for a nominal fee. Not sure what difference it made. I have just been paid for a job though that I got directly through Instagram. So it is useful for business, and I have also made some decent connections with folk on there with similar interests. I like it, I find it much better than Farcebook in comparison.
  5. And for those of us with a growing business who just started last year..... ?????
  6. Sure John would have popped along and mentioned the place he got his stuff from at some point, but I'm here so I may as well! GK Jackson & Sons - Vehicle Recovery Services, Priestbrige, Morpeth. WWW.JACKSONSGARAGE.COM
  7. I’m not envious of your situation! Two are bad enough! The pain is savage, and continuous. I had pain in my left one to start with, but the real pain is above my tackle. The GP prodded and probed me and my god did I know about it.
  8. In a remarkable coincidence, I have just discovered I have not one, but potentially two hernias emerging! ? so I am laid up now for quite some time. Started with aching balls on Sunday and got worse. Took a reluctant trip to GP last night (out of hours) and he was baffled. Went to regular GP today, and he strongly feels it’s at least one, but likely a matching pair. Normally he’d be referring me to hospital, but not essential so I’m resting at home. Well I say resting, I have a 2 and a bit year old son, a 3 week old daughter and a highly anxious partner at home. So rest is difficult!
  9. That's my job, thank you very much! ?
  10. Same here!
  11. Decent mate! West Wood? I can nip in next week back end, if thats any use?
  12. A factor often overlooked, keep em low folks! ??
  13. This was one I did a few months back, thought it was worthy!
  14. Ps. @Big J your bolster line and head stock extension are off to be galvanised so should be ready soon. I’ll text you the details.
  15. That doesn’t look like much fun gents! Murray, I notice in one of your photos you’ve got a ground saw just sitting there in the LB cab floor. I foolishly forgot to add the holder to my original order from Pekka, but he kindly gave me the details of where to get it from directly. It comes from a company called Iron Baltic, from a Estonia perhaps? Anyway, I ordered through their website and it arrived fairly quickly and I can not sing it’s praises enough. Such a simple thing, but boy is it handy. All I need now is the new Husky battery saw to go in it, so I don’t have to go through the process of starting a petrol saw every time!

    Chain oil

I think the stuff I’ve used is essentially Rotatech stuff. I’m fairly certain it came from Northern Arb Supplies. I have been very happy with it, so will probably order more of the same.

    Chain oil

Morning all. I’m sure this topic has been covered multiple times, but as per usual I can’t seem to use the Arbtalk search facility correctly! I buy my chain oil in bulk (well, 20/25 litre drums) and I’m coming to the end of my current batch of Super Sexy tackle. I’ve been very happy with it to be honest. I’ve used Oregon before but didn’t like it, it seemed extra flingy rather anti fling. I recall using some John Deere stuff before that was supposed to be for a harvester head, and found it very good. Does anyone have any recommendations for other brands to try? I was looking at Gator ET30, Rocwood, Westway Supertack, etc etc. I predominantly do first thinnings work, small scale forestry. Thanks in advance.
  18. Second vote for the 550 mk2. I got one and it’s been absolutely awesome. A major upgrade from the mk1 and just an all round weapon. Get one, you will not regret it! and if work are paying, get the xpg and enjoy warm hands!
  19. Matilda Elizabeth Tyson arrived at 7.44am this morning weighing 8lbs 5oz! Mother and baby doing good, baby enjoying sleeping, pooing and feeding. Result! ?
  20. Congratulations to all! My mrs is fit to drop any day soon, there must’ve been nowt on the tele box 9 months ago! ?
  21. They are some I had made up matey. Did quite a few extra modifications, guarding on motors, cab guarding incase something comes backwards off the bunk, extra height on headstock of bunk, fine grade steel mesh on air vents to stop brash poking through, bonnet uprights to push brash away from cab, roof rack and finally bigger bolstor pins.
  22. These little machines should never be underestimated! It's hard to tell from the photos but I had about 80 ton moved in the end of this wee site.
  23. Biting the bullet WWW.FORESTRYJOURNAL.CO.UK Low Impact Forestry is a new company offering environmentally sensitive forestry services in North... Here is the happy moron!
  24. I noticed this on your Instagram feed mate. I also took note of you distancing yourself from the tree work done there! I’m guessing it’s absolutely horrendous?!
  25. I have got at least two jobs directly from interactions through Instagram. And I get loads of interest in the machine through there. I haven’t paid for a thing, it’s just grown by itself. I usually post a few photos or videos from the days work and folk generally seem to like it! On a side note, if you type in low impact forestry into google, my Facebook page is at the top of the results, and I’ve not paid anyone to help me do that.
