  1. I use warm soapy water, open and close the gates a few times under water, then leave to air dry. Usually that's enough but if not then duck oil if required. DMM definitely say no to both graphite powder and WD40.
  2. I'm using 11.7mm line with 8mm ocean polyester cord tied in a Knut Haven't used or even seen the sky walker pulley so can't comment on it but the pinto is one solid little pulley.
  3. I use a pinto with hitch cord tied in fishermans outside the pinto. works fine for me in terms of space on the crab. No need for spacer. I like using a pinto here because you can clip the working end of your lanyard back onto the becket of the pinto which makes for a smooth in line working position system when you are using it either onto the hitch climber or onto the ring on your bridge, as you only have one crab on the bridge ring and feels less cluttered. At other times the pinto is no different to any other pulley. So it is just personal preference and how much money you have to spend...
  4. Don't think you need to be a tight arsed Scotsman to feel like £90 is a lot for someone to look at your kit for an hour, when you bust a gut all day for not much more.
  5. Thanks. Basically we're all self interested and cut corners!
  6. I also wonder why I bother with Loler checks. I think we all know when something is unsafe. But I also know that I am more likely to push the limits because I want that bit of kit to last a bit longer and not shell out more money. The strange way it works it that if someone else was using the kit and it failed then I would be responsible and I wouldn't want that to happen but I am ok with it happening to myself. So I use a Loler inspector because that way my tendency to push the limits is limited.
  7. Thanks Ben. That makes sense, thought someone would have some wise words. It's early days on srt for me
  8. Better with 11mm?
  9. Hiya Been playing about a bit with the wrench (with a 4srt tether on Yale Blue Tongue). From my initial climbs wondering why tethers aren't solid? When taking up slack there is a certain amount of friction in moving the wrench up the rope, and I see that the tether flexes under the strain and increases the effort involved. If the tether was solid this would be minimised?? Also In making the jump from a hitch climber ddrt I'm also aware that when the rope has a clear run the slack tending is effortless compared to with the wrench. Obviously there are times when it's not at all easier and the wrench (read all srt devices) is so consistent, but overall do you think it averages out, sometimes easier sometimes harder? Cheers
  10. Nice vid, massive tree..! Good tune too - what is it? :-)
  11. Darn. Missed out with 15 seconds to go!

  16. Hi Rob, Are we too late now to grab this deal? thanks
  17. thanks for all the opinions.....think there's enough support for 12" for me to give it a try...
  18. Just for clarity this is on the 200t/201t/540xp size of topper. Not the baby ones
  19. 12 or 14? Been on a 14 always but now starting to wonder about getting a 12. Loose a bit of weight, more power in the cut etc... Thoughts on a postcard Cheers
  20. There is one here - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/talking-trees/id1134585889?mt=2
  21. I have had a harness used infrequently passed by a loler inspector up to 8 or 9 years old, others would fail if over 5 years since first use. Thus there is some play in the system.... Even if it passes an inspection you need to be confident in your gear.
  22. My loler inspector gave me one post first inspection with all the details on it, just like above. Simples
  23. Is the Sirius fine to use natural crotch rigging? If not what's a good one to use....thanks
  24. Ok thanks....good to know. A steel crab would be rated more similar to the pinto rig too
