  1. Very good point. Got a CT so that's all good
  2. Haha. Though people do generally hate rookeries and would probably cut down a tree just to be rid of the noise
  3. Thanks. So will try pantin under (and over) spikes see how it goes. And with the Haas do you still wear a foot loop or clip it onto the spikes somewhere???
  4. Thanks but no other problems except with Arbtalk. Just using my phone app now. Works a treat
  5. Glad I'm still young, pushing 40 and all that. 👍
  6. I reckon a foot ascender is pretty essential for SRT. Others may disagree but without the 2:1 advantage of a doubled rope I find myself wanting a bit more leg power.
  7. Yeah I think you (and others) are. There are clearly times when it would be easier to ascend rather than spike. Sure, most days on spikes I'm spiking the tree from the base no problem. Using SRT to access the crown with a foot ascender and a HAAS type ascender is far easier than climbing the tree. Even using Ddrt it's easier. I'm regularly climbing pretty tall trees which can be hard work and take a lot of time to spike up. For example a mature Beech can be a long way to the top and really quite fat all the way. It's much easier to bypass that. I did one where I was in the tree for 4 days rigging and after dragging myself up the stem I decided that I would invest in something to make the job easier and thus make me more productive. Or like yesterday I was removing a couple of long limbs over a road which required spikes but I didn't want to spike the main stem. Or climbing big Pines where the bark is so flaky that you can hardly get the gaffs into the wood. So far I have done the same as Marc (thanks for your comment) and put spikes on up the tree, but this is often a faff, and so I'm interested in some honest advice on how others approach this situation.
  8. How do you do it? The Spikecender gadget looks interesting but it's got a hell of a price attached to it. Any other solutions? Cheers 👍
  9. haven't used a 201 - but compared to the 200t I think Husky is pretty good. The one I use occassionally does have a tendancy to need the choke even when warm though. But mainly I just find the balance is a bit off. Sure if I used it all the time I'd get used to it, but it feels like the handle is a off centre to the right, so when using one handed (shhh!) it doesn't feel as true as the 200. Its a tough choice.....but I think I'd like to use a new 201 before buying a husky

    Best 70cc saw

Looking myself - between the 461 and the 576xp. 576xp looks like a great saw - and the vibes are so low.
  11. Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. The Husky 576xp looks good too though!
  12. Ear plugs do my head in, always fall out of my ears, which must be made weird cos I can't find any that stay in. What ones are the best???

    Sharpening

I often find a log or another tree and prop the saw with bar tip up at a reasonable angle with unit between legs. Then work up the bar, then lift and spin chain down with file and repeat. Works pretty well
  14. The OS Mapfinder should do that?
  15. ok thanks guys, looks like I should stick to my plan on a 70ish cc saw..... so 441, 461, 365, 372, 576!!!
  16. What's next after the top handle? I'm looking at buying a new bigger saw and can't decide whether the 60cc is big enough if you're going to just have one bigger saw - 70cc seems more worthwhile? If you have a 60cc do you then jump to a 90cc?
  17. Thanks NFG. I'll have a proper look at home this eve
  18. Only way to get out is Ctrl Alt Del and kill Chrome, then start again. What browsers you getting it on?
  19. Got this 3 times now when using Arbtalk and not through another site. Anyone else? Anyone know how to stop it? Thanks
  20. the economy is only 'doing well' because the pound is so weak and all the trading happens in dollars. we are doing very well currently, lets hope it lasts!
  21. The Orange from Nod is not CE, the Blue is.
