  1. I believe they are cankers, although I can't really help much more. Is it isolated to this one limb or is there more?
  2. Very very cool! Thanks for sharing
  3. Saw this great looking Beech while out quoting today Not even going to start on the mature trees that were cut down! Bring on general tree protection! FLUSHHHHHHH!!!!
  4. Fredward

    Id on this

Unedo means 'I eat one', so as you can probably guess they don't taste much like strawberries
  5. Yeah as above, be careful of using 'evergreen oak', I've heard of someone doing work on the wrong tree because a site had more than one evergreen oak, common names can be misleading.
  6. Good to hear mate, don't be put off by the sceptics. It's better to try and fail than to live your whole life wondering what if. Someone told me that it takes 3 years to get established, the first year you will likely make a loss, then break even second year, if you're still in it after the 3rd year then you have a chance of cracking it. I'm in my first 6 months and it's pretty tough I'll admit!
  7. Sell the 201, buy a 576xp, I love mine. Smooth and powerful, I run a 22" but 24" would be nice too.
  8. I did a dead gum leaning on another tree, tied in to two other trees but still had to lanyard onto the gum to get a decent position. Cleared it off the other tree and it balanced there. Went down, put a gob in it, back cut and pulled it with the truck and the whole thing came out of the ground haha.
  9. I like the look of the rings for redirecting and general rigging but think I'd pull out the block for snatching those big logs.
  10. Yeah put some good gloves on for Pyracantha, they can be nasty to say the least! More of a climbing shrub than a tree.
  11. Great photos, did you guys do that tree in the bvackground of the last picture?
  12. I heard of old timers dragging ropes around behind their truck to break them in but with modern synthetic ropes surely they don't need breaking in that badly
  13. I wouldn't have thought it would be of much value, not very good firewood, good for making chop-sticks or wooden truck/trailer decks! To be honest if it was me I wouldn't be paying anything, especially if I had to chop it myself.
  14. Fantastic photo. thanks for posting. Bit of head scratching to be done here! That is totally uncharacteristic of Birch bark!
  15. Yeah thats a good shout. Azara microphylla?
  16. Hmm looks to glossy and thick leaved for Nothofagus, try Coprosma repens.
  17. These trees never cease to amazae me, I wonder if minimum root radius still applys! How do the roots even survive in fermentation conditions?
  18. Interesting decay patterns, did the second one split when you felled it?
  19. You da man, looks like a biggun alright! How long to get it on the deck and then clean up?
  20. Yeah box cut or V cut as mentioned above, obviously undercut as much as you can without getting the saw stuck!
  21. Don't be too keen to adjust the high low screws as you run the risk of leaning it out and damaging the saw (if it runs), carb adjustments should be very minor, like 1/8 of a turn or something.
  22. Under warranty? Take it in to the shop, might be auto tune, I had something similar when I first bought mine they put it on the computer.. The woes of computer chainsaws!
  23. Yeah definitely a Hornbeam, or.. is it a Macrocarpa? But on a serious note.. one close up of the bud scar would confirm Ailanthus, is very distinctive.
