  1. That's the nature of it, dragging branches and cutting them to size for the chipper, some cross cutting, use some lopping tools, for that pay.. It's up to you to lift yourself out of the position and grow in to a more suitable situation. There is a lot of guys out there with chipper/chainsaw tickets to do the job. The most important is to have a motivated climber. You pay the climber more and the ground workers less to be able to afford a good climber.
  2. In the beginning I was clueless about pricing, but now when i got a better understanding about cost, and charging a price reflecting on reality. Stump Grinding is a profession i wish i started 10 years ago.
  3. That tree would take me, hmmmm 3 weeks to complete if the branches would hold my weight. I better stay on the ground.
  4. when you sense your company doing absolute great ! And all you do and touch works well, and you feel nothing can stop you. Who need drugs when you can get that natural high !
  5. Was out stump grinding yesterday, was raining all day, cold bitter rain. the area got so flooded the machine sunk down over a foot, was lucky I managed to get loose. put a board in the front and lower the arm managed to lift up the front of the machine and put boards below the tracks. I was swearing and cursing myself for not having a winch.
  6. The advert is great, they get folks talking about it. Perhaps I shall advert sexy stump grinding. Carried out with chicks preferring stumps to long big trees.
  7. I was looking on this today, had flyers from them.. I was going to post a thread today about it here on Arbtalk. Was a very good looking woman on the front with chainsaw oil
  8. For myself after the age of 38 I started feeling it getting wobbly, I'm 41 now. and can feel it by the year. Still strong, but not the same. I'm 6f 1. and weight is 17 stones.
  9. If it can be done, DO IT !
  10. I used Husqvarna quite a lot, natural me being Swedish I suppose, but i switched to Stihl saws when i came to Scotland. But next saw i buy will be a Husqvarna a bigger model. They are both very good chainsaws, i can't say who is best saw. Actually i don't mind what saw i use Husqvarna or Stihl.
  11. Well.... If you got a business and you are not busy then you need to spend every awake moment you got to do something towards your goal your dream. If it means dropping leaflets then that's what you got to do. Walk till your legs wont hold your weight and then do it again. Knock doors, get in contact with the people that will give you jobs. There is no excuses, to run a successful company means you must put in the effort. In the beginning till you feel you are flying you got no other life then improving your company.
  12. I'm not going to see hypnotic box the full year, the tv that is.
  13. I would price that work for 1 day. You must know what you are talking about to the customer, and be very confident. I had a tree surgery company myself and I never lost a lot of jobs, and still my prices was on the high side. I always explain my experience and I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to trees. My price on that would be. Taking tree down and tidy up. 50 pounds for petrol and diesel for van, 120 pounds for your employee, 200 for yourself, and 100 for putting by for expansion. that's 470 pounds, and grind the stump for 200 pounds.
  14. The idea to mount a chipper on my stump grinder is scrapped. Thanks for all the replies folks, I wait a while and buy a proper chipper one day. I would like to offer stump grinding, and grounds man with a chipper.
  15. Amazing stump grinding photos, tractors, diggers, stump grinders is my passion. I like every single photo of them. Thanks for posting so many good photos folks.
  16. First course is something I need to get done to. anyone know the cost on a first aid course ?
  17. Benefits would be I don't have to spend 5k plus on a chipper.
  18. You seem to enjoy your job as much as I do
  19. Amazing you got the machine in there !
  20. Even modify the wheel so I can put it on without taking the stump grinding wheel off everytime.
  21. I had in my mind for a while to somehow modify my stump grinder so I can attach a chipper to it.. The link I'm adding is for a small Pto driven chipper. How if I took the stump grinding wheel away and modify so I can fit this chipper towards it, put heavy duty wheels on the chipper so the arm on the stump grinder don't have to take the full weight of 395kg. Any thoughts on this? could it work ? 8" KTM Professional Wood Chipper Shredder Mulcher Woodchipper | eBay
  22. Was raining all day here in Ayrshire, didn't stop me from going out and cut up and split some logs I got from last stump grinding job with my axe. I got in such a state and could not stop, just one more, one more, and so on. Ended up with 2 full ton bags. Need to build a place to store the logs in now.
