2. Yes she is good on that sort of things, she had a company running with her ex husband and she understand that sort of things. I'm a hard worker and i don't see the extra you need to take to grow at times.
3. Yes she is the business head and to be honest i'm not, so i will get her more involved.
4. My weakness is i tend to under price, i need to get away with that weakness !
5. I will donate money in July and that is a promise ! The reason i can't donate now is fiance is booked up to Florida and i have to pay for it. I hope all is as good as it can be Sean.
6. Takes over ! Was out pricing a job today and it was a stump in the front garden 40cm wide, climb some steps put some boards down to protect the ground. in the back garden been a hedge with 4 stumps reaching 30cm, and 20 small ones, i reckon the time involved in total is 2 hours. I say to the Lady i get back with the price i will think about it on the way home, i get the better half to phone up with the price "she is very polite and social compared to me" i tell her 100 £... She comes back to me says i told her 210 £ and she accepted it. ???????? She told me i'm under pricing all my jobs and it have to come to an end !!!
7. No idea looking back, do the best of this.
8. I made my side guard removable for this sorts of jobs on my predator, to be able to swing the arm near the fence.
9. I would price that for around the 700 to 800 £.
10. mine is small but maybe not as small as you need ? an predator 38rx, i'm quite near cumbernauld
11. Big man getting bullied by the better half
12. Something needs done every day, even if it's just one attempt to get your name out there. To start a company is like trying to start a chainsaw thats been in the garage over the winter, you pull and pull and nothing happens to begin with, but you know in time it will start you just need to adjust it a little bit.
13. Been in situations like that a few times, they are costly. I lost almost a full days of work, hire of chipper for the day. Nightmare. I told customer to deal with this, and then i will be back. when i came back they was still raging. but i just did the work, with god knows how many photos taken on me and neighbors shouting to each other. Not an ideal job. Some works is good to just walk away from.
14. The amount of posts would be less, people like pictures and very little to read. Need to feed the pig what the pig wants.
15. I'm learning the guy i train up in welding here in Scotland how to say Perkele ! Simples he wont pass till he can say it correctly ! I have had so much fun with PERKELE, perhaps i shall record it one day.. Let him say Perkele, and i say it, and so on. But have to be outside work place, no recording devices are allowed in there.
16. Nice to see how good it turned out for you there Rachel, been reading the full thread. Who needs the job seekers ?? A shame you live so far away, or i would have asked you to run my grinder.
17. I'm still in your position, and at one point i was thinking of buying one of the spider lifts aswell, but i ended up with a stump grinder. I was looking on it in the way it must be something i absolutely love doing, something i feel i can do every awake hour on the day. And i felt after thinking in that way that a stump grinder is for me. I had used them quite alot before when i hired them for my tree surgery company. And i enjoyed every second of it. The thought is always on the work, and in the beginning at the very least every awake hour needs to be focused on the company. Find new ways of getting the wheel spinning. At the moment i'm avoiding as far as i can to advertise in papers. I do think that always money needs to be put aside as much as possible for hidden costs. i take away 25 % of any income and put aside for a rainy day, if the engine blows or anything. I do think you will get busy with a spider lift, there is alot of companies looking to hire them. medium sized industry hire them, change lights, service a indoor crane, just about anything, i think your market is wide and if you put your mind to it then it is a success. There is same with stump grinding, the market is quite wide, you got tree surgeons, private folks you give cards to and they give it to a friend, monoblockers, fencers, builders. Better if you have a job on the side, to give in some sort of security, so you have the time and no need for panic if the phone goes silent for a while. Try to see the positive in everything, make sure to learn from mistakes, and turn the mistake over to something good, so your mindset stays the same. Look around you and see what other companies there are, see how you can do it better. To get more business. There is Ebay, gumtree, forums, facebook page, taking part in conversations on youtube in videos around your area, like pages on facebook and take part in conversations, advertise in local papers, make sure your name is out there, order big banners from vista print secure them well and hang them over a bridge, just about anything so your name is there, folks needs to see it many times to remember, so your aim is to make sure folks in your area know your name and know what you are doing. It's a gradual thing, it takes time, but it works and in time it will be a new life style with more freedom. Try to avoid over spending or taking out to big loans.
18. People are just amazing and some are so stupid
19.
I got springer spaniels, but i'm afraid it would be to warm for the poor wee souls to be left in the cab. And if i had them running loose i would be worried they runned in to the grinding wheel. How do you know i have dogs tho ?
