  1. Then you've probably got an early duff 201.
  2. There goes my job in tabloid journalism!
  3. I remember once on a tight job financially the drive chain went on my old Rayco grinder miles away from my yard. I took it off, drove around, found an agricultural engineer, got him to make one up on the spot (after much cajoling) took it back, refitted it, finished the job, got paid. I was more chuffed with myself than after a tricky takedown.
  4. Me too, I'm surprised he hasn't been nick named "hurri-Kane" yet.
  5. I've seen some 200ts around for silly money. I had 2 or 3 after my 020s so I feel I can speak with some authority on the subject. They were a good saw, not without faults(carbs mostly) and yes, early201s were poor ( remedied through an upgrade) But if you pay through the nose for an old 200 you're a mug. The 201 is a great saw, the 540 is a great saw. It's the most important tool in a climbers armoury, get a new saw if you possibly can. Pointless retro nostalgia IMO.
  6. That's what the argument was about. I was spreading the love....
  7. Ahhhh, it's when the stuff hits the fan that your ability to fix/improvise/find a solution comes to the fore. It's what separates the wannabees from "the get it done"sorts
  8. Me, the wife, and her sister.
  9. Buy a new one.
  10. That's an insane price for something like that.
  11. Some jobs fall out of bed. NBD Get used to it.
  12. Glad you're back, one of my favourite posters.
  13. It's odd I know but I have never greased any needle bearings, I have also never had any bother with them, go figure.....
  14. Looks good, nice shape, skilful work, but I know what IC TREES is saying, that'll be the same size as before in September.
  15. Whilst I have found the confusing figures and letters a bit like Ancient Greek in this thread, the points of view from both sides is fascinating. A bigger truck can put you in a different league but to misquote Skyhuck. "A new truck doesn't come with a full diary of tree work on the dash" Good stuff though.
  16. Re read the OP, clarify for yourself what questions she actually asks.
  17. Ruined as far as the Arb purists are concerned, for the average member of the public it looks fine after a seasons growth.
  18. No it isn't, you were talking about cherries, this is a plum. Different trees, different reaction to pruning. Are willows/limes etc ruined? They come back ok.
  19. Pretty sure they're plums of some description (probably purple plums) Different reaction to pruning than cherries.
  20. Wrong thread Jules, not the Polish on this one. My take, it's a nice enough job, but probably just done standing on the old cuts. Looks good but technically not really a stretch.
  21. LR tippers are expensive and don't hold a lot of chip. My advice is be a little more careful where you drive the cabstar. Maybe run a 4wd like a cheap ranger/l200/hilux alongside it
  22. If they are purple plum they might come back with a lot of vigour, my advice leave them till November/December, see what they look like, make your decision then.
  23. Mine appear to be American gaffs, judging by that photo at least.
