H&S reactionary ‘box ticking’ . Sounds like someone with minimal hands on experience has been put under pressure to show that they have mitigated the risk factor on the RAMS. Surely careful analysis of the actual accidents and practical steps taken to prevent further incidents by way of in-house training would be a better way of keeping the workforce safe. I can understand the pressure to produce safer systems of work after accidents, but these kind of knee-jerk measures that tend to get implemented rarely tackle the real issues. If someone has cut their line while in a tree and taken a fall they are doing something wrong. It would be interesting to know if Fountains are doing anything to look at the real reasons why climbing lines are getting cut in the first place. Hope the climbers are ok. Sorry I can’t help with any advice on the best back up line.

Sadly my pockets aren’t deep I’m afraid, I got gifted the speakers and a Marantz amp. Still sounds very sweet though. (Apparently I have a very rich Dad.) Quad would be my preference if money were no object. [emoji41] Just hired a brand new Ford transit mini bus for the week, oh dear..... I think they make them out of Kleenex and spit now to reduce the carbon footprint even further. What an absolute pile of gutless crap. I hate to think how long a tipper would last doing tree work every day.

I’ve recently found myself trying to come to terms with the fact that EVERYTHING (cars, trucks, saws, kitchen appliances, etc...)is now deliberately made CRAP on purpose..... I mean, think about it logically, why would any manufacturer in their right mind make something that lasts for longer than 5 years? I just got my hands on a pair of Castle hi fi speakers. Nearly 30 years old and will blow anything modern under £2k out the water. Talking to the manager of the local Richer Sounds shop and he said Castle went bump because their speakers were built too well. Sorry to hear about your grief with the truck Kevin, the world was a better place when stuff was made to last, Some people reckon the Russians make the best trucks now.

Fair comment, but to the average citizen living under either regime, would they be able to tell any difference? Oppression means exactly the same thing in any language or ideology.

That’s really sad news. Condolences to his family. Tough week down here too. Going to a mates funeral tomorrow, he was 22. Far too young.

I think everything hangs on how quick you can change the tracks. We could have made use of it yesterday. Good idea by the looks of it for those one off jobs where you can’t get access.

I’d be pretty cheesed off as well but I’ve had worse done to us on much bigger jobs. Not often, but it has happened and it comes round to most of us once in a while. You live and learn, hopefully. Like Mick says, it’s a cheap lesson learned. Be thankful it didn’t happen on a big job.

Ah yes.... the Orwellian named “Human Rights Council” at the UN. Those bastions of freedom such as, Russia, China, Venezuela, UAE, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia. DR Congo, Etc... (not many Pride marches going on in them places). After trying to seek reform from within, engaging with fellow members and getting absolutely nowhere the US has done the right thing in walking away. (IMHO)

Chokered single line (Krab or running bowline with a tail to retrieve) with a zigzag for me as well. It would be very quick in the event of an emergency bail out. The ZZ 3 is pretty bombproof now they have addressed the issues. Not really recommended if you wanted to be legalistic about it, but very effective nonetheless.

Lead tape with bitumen backing (it’s actually for roofing) is about the best thing you will find for this. Forget the sealants out of tubes they’re rubbish as the weight and pressure of the water forces it’s way through, whereas the pressure of the water actually helps the tape seal across the joints. We did an antique fountain and pond about 20 years ago and it is still holds today. [emoji106]

Nice work Steve. The important info is well displayed. It shows the company in a good light. “Our consistently high standards single us out as the smart choice” I do a lot of ‘wordsmith-ing in my job and I find you can go on for ever tweaking stuff.

Winding the cord onto the spool too tightly when loading it can cause it to lock up. I always used the 440-2 head but it’s the same principle. Like Stubby says there should be a spacer or washer that will eliminate the spinning off problem.

Did the mog thing. Was great for a couple of years but then the maintenance costs start to kick in. (Lots of downtime can really hurt your income) If you don’t have a local mechanic to be able to do the work quickly and efficiently, the costs start to rocket. 3.5t tipper with 6” tow behinds are what 80% of domestic Arb firms use, for a reason. But... they are very limited weight wise. 6.5t crew cab tipper and 750kg 6” chipper is about as versatile and about as good as it gets for domestic arb. Imo. (Personally) You will find what works best for your line of work soon enough. Big outlay on a tracked chipper, if it’s not quite what you need. (Slower to sell as well if you change your mind).

Simplest thing I can think of (without pics) is a tag line tied to the tip and a separate pulley and line tied to the butt of the piece. Gob at 3’oclock (or 9) Guy on the tag line pulls the branch back in on itself , guy on the pulley line plays the line out to follow. (If that makes sense I’ll be amazed!)
