  1. When I first read about this I genuinely thought it was one of those fake news satire pieces. Then I realised it actually happened. UN Singles Out Israel as World's Only Violator of Women's Rights; Iran, Saudi Arabia & Yemen Among the Voters - UN Watch UNWATCH.ORG GENEVA, July 24, 2019 — Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Pakistan were among members of the UN’s 54-nation economic and social council, a principal organ of the world body, who voted to single out and condemn Israel yesterday as the only country in the world that violates women’s rights. The Jewish state was harshly and repeatedly condemned in a resolution, adopted 40 to 2 with 9 abstentions and 3 absent (see breakdown below), for allegedly being the “major obstacle” for Palestinian women “with regard to their advancement, self-reliance, and integration in the development of their society.” Out of 20 items on the UN Economic and Social Council’s 2018-2019 agenda, only one — Item No. 16 against Israel — focuses on condemning a specific country. All the other focus areas concern global topics such as disaster relief assistance and the use of science and technology for development. The resolution completely ignores how Palestinian women’s rights are impacted by their own governing authorities—the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, and Hamas in Gaza—nor does it mention how women are discriminated against within patriarchal Palestinian society. Moreover, ECOSOC concluded its annual session by ignoring the world’s worst abusers of women’s rights, refusing to pass a single resolution on the situation of women in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, or DR Congo, all of which ranked in the top ten worst countries in last year’s Global Gender Gap Report, produced by the World Economic Forum. Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of UN Watch, condemned the delegates’ abuse of the UN body as a forum to target Israel. “The UN reached new heights of absurdity by …
  2. I thought Igor was a little bit temperamental with with people and dogs? My mate had a smooth haired fox terrier and it was very unpredictable. One minute it would be paws in the air being fussed over and then a mercury-trigger flipped inside it for no discernible reason and it would go full on ballistic. Very difficult to get it to stop..,
  3. I’m in the middle of a battle of wills with the Mrs. I want an English mastiff but she has her heart set on a Bernese mountain dog. We have to wait for her to get a new kitchen because she does commercial specialty baking and her customers aren’t fond of dog hairs apparently. Looking at getting one in the new year hopefully. In the meantime I can dream.

  9. I guess it is Eggs, I wouldn’t go to someone’s house and expect them to stop swearing on my account. But I would ask them not to in mine.
  10. Interesting thread 5 Shires. I look after a house with up to 24 guys off the streets etc.. We have a zero tolerance policy on swearing. It’s surprising how the atmosphere and general environment of the house is improved by having this in place. It certainly helps guys stretch their vocabulary in order to express themselves without resorting to it. It definitely helps if you are trying to foster a culture of respect for one another.

  13. That doesn’t look like a very nice climb. If it was my choice, I would sever the ivy at the base and come back in the winter and do it. Either way I would cut all the foliage off and leave a couple of anchor points in case I had to re-do it in the future. Looks like the customer would be better off getting it removed completely.

  17. Those are the attachments for the leg loops and the sliding bridge. The ‘D,s’ at either end of the bridge and leg loops could potentially be used to clip into for work positioning (like the lower D’s on a treemotion) but it doesn’t look like they have been specifically designed for it. A phone call to the manufacturer may be worthwhile just to make sure.
  18. Very enjoyable thread to say the least. Interesting and inspiring life journey Erik, sounds like you have fought and won some very big battles. Love the work you do... a different world. It’s great how you incorporate the old school and the new in your tree work. Thanks for sharing.
  19. We’ve got a RC 3001. It’s a very simple, solid and effective unit. You can add the winch to it at a later date, so you can spread the cost a bit.
  20. Which Kolibri harness are you referring to? Pics would help...
  21. I have to tell the truth Mick, The job was at our own place as ‘we’ were the only firm that could get there in time to get the road cleared. The storm hit at about 4 in the morning I was awake and heard a mighty crash/crunch from outside. I looked outside and the biggest oak we had, had come down in the wind. The insurance company were happy with our quote and the neighbours in the Cul-de-sac behind us were able to use the road by 11 am. A mate brought his mill on a later day. I sold the rest of the timber to a firewood guy and we kept the the big lumps for ourselves to slab and plank . Bit of a unique opportunity although I was gutted to lose my favourite tree. (About 25t of timber) We tried milling on another customers job, similar size, and like you said, we would have been better off just ringing up and getting away to the next job.
  22. Insurance work on a v large 196 year old wind blown oak. 5 guys, 3 grab loaders, 1 avant, 1 busy day. (Plus one days milling and still got a few lumps left to mill.) £3800 + vat.
  23. If this is the benchmark......., Then everyone who held a position of authority, who either by commission or omission was complicit or had anything to do with these terrible cases where vulnerable kids were left to be victimised by predators, should be doing serious jail time far in excess of what TR was sentenced to. That would be justice, seen to be done.
  24. Worked in a factory making factories (in kit form) one week I sat at a machine pressing metal components, the technique was pic a component out of a box place in the machine, press two buttons, remove component and throw it into a box on the other side of the machine. 12 hour shifts to make the crap wages viable... That job really made rainy super wide conny hedge re-re-re-reductions look like exciting adventures. Even in the rain.
