  1. I use this VT on my 5m side strop... 2 wraps and 3 braids depending on how you count them. Very responsive and grips well when using it on my bridge as a second climbing line. The hitch cord is 8mm op and is nicely worn in. Quite new to climbing so I'm still experimenting... There are loads on here with bags of experience and knowledge... Why not create a new thread and ask the question? Hope this helps! Timon
  2. We're going to build a hiab trailer to tow behind our mog. Our mechanic is going to build it from scratch or adapt an existing trailer. Can anyone give me some advice based on similar experience? We're using it for domestic mainly. Our mechanic is very capable, so the building of it won't be a problem. I just wanted to hear of others experiences, good and bad. Thanks, Timon
  3. Just as I thought.... 3 way!! Nice looking splice tho.... In better nick than the sewn eye on my main line
  4. Going out to the shed now to check if it IS a screwgate. Someone's swapped it for mine if it is.....
  5. Nice one !! looking forward to learning how to myself.
  6. Home splicing?
  7. The last pic is of the VT on my strop.
  8. By a twist (my version) I mean; Tie a VT but simply twist the rope from the ends or the eyes before attaching to the krab. This creates more stiffness and changes the characteristics of the hitch. I think this is what Steve meant but not sure. I've also included a pics of the eyetie hitch which is an excellent alternative to the VT. Hope this is helpful
  9. Tradeoff is right..... Love the sport-ness of the VT but also like the grippy-ness of the eyetie hitch. Only ever used op, I like its durability. Got a zigzag coming in a couple of days
  10. I found the same problem, but like Steve said I put a twist through the braids and it worked a lot better. I am on 8mm op and 13mm Marlow gecko. 3 wraps and 3 braids. For some reason I never had the problem using the VT on my side strop with same set up.
  11. With its own unique id number, of course. Thanks for your previous advice on this topic as it was helpful when I did my LOLER competent person course recently. Still awaiting the results to my written exam.
  12. Sorry treequip. Meant to quote Chris' post.
  13. And new kit (PPE) does not have to be LOLER ed until six months... Provided it has a CE mark. Unless your next inspection is due before, then all kit should be included
  14. What's the worst saw you've used ? B&Q tree pruning saw takes some beating!
  15. Deadwooding this big oak.... Absolutely drenched...... Sat in the cab now trying to dry off.... Mog heaters aren't the best.
  16. Used to live and work in Derby.. Your main competition is a guy called Martin Bosworth. ( who is a really sound guy ) but he only does soil and dig outs. You might try asking Biffa at Etwall how much they charge for green waste at their composting facility we used to get really excellent deals and they sell compost (suitable to lay turf on) really cheap at the same site. Best bet would be to phone around all of the landscaping companies and small tree surgeons . ( most big firms already have outlets for their chip and logs . Hope this helps mate.
  17. Very impressive!! Takes the term "all singing all dancing" into a new dimension... What kind of capacity is the chip box? I know by your threads you've waited a long time on this project. Good on you mate....
  18. Refreshing to hear someone admit to making a silly mistake on a thread Most of the time we try and make ourselves good !!! (I speak for myself of course). Hope you sorted the damage. I've done the same with vehicles more than once........
  19. Sorry I didn't get to see you (and your mog) at APF... Got there late on the Friday and didn't get to see everything. If your ever in Brum or Cov you're welcome to pop in. Bet your mog is almost finished now. Apart from a front calliper ours is going great. As I mentioned before we've got loads of things planned for it. We've just employed a full time mechanic / engineer. Same guy that did all the work on the cab. we'll look to start working on it in the new year. Front mounted chipper, new bigger box and a homemade hiab trailer all in the pipeline.... Watch this space
  20. Hope this goes well for you, Paul. We really enjoyed the Winchester one. Was really helpful. All being well we should have everything up to speed within the next 12 months. Thanks, Timon
  21. Just sat my LOLER examiner exam today.... My brain still hurts !!
  22. Tested loads in 1999 for a firm I worked for and the manitou was best then... A lot has changed. When I worked in construction I used a manitou 1729 which was an incredible machine.., later I drove JCB,s and saw them steadily improve every year... My advice, try as many as you can, if you are a serious customer then the different suppliers will be glad to let you have demo model to try.
  23. Based on the statistic that they are seeing a net increase in trees growing.(I'll try and dig out the details) Totally agree Israel is a tiny country and what is more remarkable is that a fair proportion of it is desert. I don't know the statistics or ratios, I'll go back and check my source
  24. And the only country to have an increase of trees entering the 21st century is.... Israel.
