  1. We learned a lot from the Stihl guy, When our landscapers brought a strimmer to him he plugged a device into the ignition and bluetoothed to a laptop. Then he told them how many hours it had done, how many successful starts and that the strimmer was running a bit lean. Pre- mix aspen or motomix is definitely the way forward . Timon
  2. Hi Jon, it varies which is why we want to play safe with pre mixed. I think we must have used some of that crap red stuff from Wilkos. The guy from Stihl came to train our lads this week on maintenance and repairs. He was a real gentleman. Very helpful. He recommended that we switch to pre-mix. Timon
  3. After scoring the pistons on 2 saws (Stihl workshop training rep reckons it was down to poor 2 stroke oil) We're switching to pre-mixed fuel. I can get discounted motomix locally But will have to travel to get Aspen. Is there much difference between the two products?
  4. What about if you use it every other day and keep it in a glass case overnight? Will it only half fall apart? :) I take it you have the first type of 540?
  5. Mines lasted well so far.... But I've only started it once... In the garage :)
  6. I just got a 540, I'm hoping mine isn't one of the ones that fall apart. Apparently (according to users on this forum) there are two kinds. And now I find out that Stihl have ironed out the problems on the 201 so that it now performs... And stays in one peice..........
  7. Thanks Eddie. I'm going to order some now. Timon
  8. Nice one mate. Looks like interesting work (apart from the stickiness) Timon
  9. Hi Riggerbear, What climbing techniques are you using to climb them? I take it spikes are out of the question. Thanks mate, Timon
  10. Just take the plunge... Do the CS30/31 straight away, it's done then and you are qualified. (Qualified to start learning that is! ) If you can get some hands on practice with a saw (safely!) first, all the better..... But watch you don't pick up bad habits which you then have to un-learn. From what I can remember the CS 30/31 is designed to be do-able for an absolute beginner. If you've already got experience (without any ingrained bad habits). You'll be fine. Timon
  11. Thanks...
  12. Nice one Mark, thanks. Timon

    Jokes???

I just love it when people can combine being politically correct and funny at the same time...... Almost spat spat my fair trade coffee out!!!! :)
  14. Thanks Stubby. I didn't think of that..
  15. Will the autotune on a 560xp need correcting if I change to ASPEN fuel? The saw has only been used a few times. I've also taken the spark guard mesh out of the exhaust. Any advice would be much appreciated.... Thanks, Timon
  16. Thanks. I'll check it out.
  17. Any idea who's our nearest aspen dealer? We're in south west Birmingham ....,, Thanks
  18. We've got the Stihl guy coming next week to give all our guys a maintenance/repair training workshop next week. Maybe he can shed some light on what has happened.
  19. Just got two saws back from the mechanics......... Stihl 261 2yr old & an old husky 147 Both got scored pistons. Suspect that it was either bad mixing or stale fuel. It's hard to know cos the saws have been used by different guys. Looks like it's going to be Aspen from now on.
  20. Hi again Jon, Absolutely chucking down now mate! Thanks .Timon
  21. Must be the calm before the storm, Jon. It's warm in Birmingham. Thanks mate
  22. My advice for what it's worth.. Check out the classes, particularly the ones that mix cardio with weights. It's made a massive difference to me and you don't need to be in there for hours on end chugging away lifting weights. I find I work twice as hard in a class than I would on my own.
  23. Interesting posts Steve , I guess you've been climbing for a good bit. I'm 50 next year and started climbing a year ago. I go to "tabata" interval circuit training class once of twice a week and it makes a massive difference to my stamina. I'm 13.5 stone and 5'9 so could do with losing a stone. Diet isn't a strong point but my wife has gone paleo so I'm getting better. I climb about 3 times a week. And I'm reasonably fit for my age. If it wasn't for this kind of training I think is struggle to get up the tree let alone work once I'm up there. Nice one mate Timon
  24. Where are you based? We have a full time mechanic and a garage in South BHAM. He can work on Commercial. HGV and some agricultural.
  25. Boots "muffles" wax ear plugs. I've tried loads of different kinds These are the best..... I sleep in them every night. Very effective, very comfortable and very affordable.
