  1. Our tree business developed out of our landscaping business. So yes we only do treework. Having said that not every job is a climb/dismantle. We do the odd hedge/shrubbery job to pack the diary.
  2. We run a tree surgery business and landscaping teams. Treework is constant, but landscaping dies off considerably. One of the reasons our treeworks keeps going through the winter (apart from building a good name) is because we invest in advertising.. Thanks Timon
  3. Sorry to hear about this.. Hope you get sorted and recover quickly.. Timon
  4. We just had an ms 261 "die" scored piston etc.. Uneconomic repair. When the Stihl guy came round to give our lot some training he stripped it, diagnosed it and took it away, rebuilt and reconditioned it free of charge! nice one Stihl !! The power of resurrection
  5. Use a mattock "carefully" expose it below ground level. Like shires says criss cross cuts with a saw and chip away at it with a mattock and apply root killer. The biggest danger is damage to the head stones so whoever is using the mattock needs to have a very good eye/swing. I wouldn't worry about unearthing any "remains". They will be much deeper. Hope this helps. A couple of old chains sharpened up would be handy. Sometimes a brush and bucket of water to wash soil/stones off the stump below ground level can preserve the chains a bit longer, otherwise you will blunt them instantly. Hope it goes well. Timon
  6. Definitely worth calling DMM if it's only 3 months old.... Pretty sure they'd replace if faulty.
  7. I found 8mm hitch cord worked well with 13mm main line.
  8. Fair point. I wouldn't like to pay the maintenance costs etc.. on that sort of equipment plus the rest of the expenses. We have our work cut out just keeping on top of our kit. Timon
  9. Sorry to hear that.. Happens far too often. Hope you recover quickly. Timon
  10. Same here. 2 knackered saws later! Thankfully the Stihl guy took one of them and rebuilt it for us free of charge!!
  11. Sounds like a plan... We joined an organisation called NISP: national industrial symbiosis programme. They have helped our organisation save ££££s by providing waste/recycling solutions for our charitable ARB/landscaping/furniture businesses. NISP was a government funded project to turn waste streams into resources. It's now been taken over privately by International Synergies. (Government funding ended, as it does). PM me if you want me to make an introduction for you. Thanks, Timon
  12. Interesting post..... Does that mean that producers of chip i.e tree surgeons, and the yards that process and supply chip will have any influence over the price? Or will companies such as Stobart's have the monopoly over it? In much the same way that supermarkets dictate the price of milk? Thanks, Timon
  13. Nice one Jon .. Sounds like the gates will be a thing of beauty mate! And built to last Have they started dredging the levels yet? Who's running the show down there, FIFA? :) Thanks, Timon
  14. Forgive my ignorance on this subject. But, who sets the price on wood chip? We generate 1 or 2 mog loads a day plus a tranny or 2 of logs. We tip free at a local chip site where they run tracked 360s and a large trommel to sieve the chip into artic trailers... It must cost them a fair bit to keep that operation going compared to what they get for their chip. We looked into getting a biomass boiler for one of our bigger houses thinking we'd save loads but it wasn't practical.... We were also told that wood fuel pellets (presumably pressed from virgin wood chip) retailed around £240+vat per ton Someone's obviously making money..... But who ??! Thanks, Timon
  15. Ha! How's the gates going Jon ?? Now you'll have to hire a pump for the post holes.... Or dig a moat round mendip logs castle instead Thanks Timon
  16. Hi Jon, it's calmed down up here in W Mids now.... Started off atrocious this morning. Then turned out nice.. Not often I wished I was in the office but I was glad this morning! Thanks Timon
  17. Sainsbury's are massive supporters of the charity I work for as a volunteer. Helping the homeless and addicted turn their lives around (me being one of them). They provide free food to all our centres and provide us with many opportunities to raise much needed funds in their stores... Such as bag packing and carol singing.at Christmas when our other charitable businesses are a bit slow. (Only our tree works does well ) I personally know the person who developed the poppy appeal at corporate Sainsburys, I can vouch that they are not cynical money grabbers. Sainsburys historically have a good social responsibility ethos. I would much rather support a supermarket that has a genuine concern and shows practical support for many good causes. I for one wish Sainsburys every success in both their charity work and their commercial operations. It's a shame that more large commercial organisations don't operate with the same responsibility. Well done Sainsburys!! Thanks, Timon

Be alright to do quotes in I suppose.. You couldn't build a business round one though.
  19. Pretty looking machine. Useful too! Like all mercs, built to last... Timon

    Tall Fir Rigging

Another cool video of your work reg. The soundtrack bought back "Madchester " memories! Thanks Timon
  24. !!
  25. Yep! They'd definitely believe us! As for what they could do........ How about loading our mog onto a low loader, confiscating it and back taxing us for all the mileage the vehicle had done. Plus a sizeable fine. HM customs and excise are not exactly known for being either naive or lenient..... Like I said it's definitely worked out far cheaper to run it on white than red Timon
