  1. Speak for yourself mark. We are But we don't work for free either! Some people think that because we are a charity that we will come and do cheap jobs...... We don't. Often people will need to be reminded that WE are the charity... Not them.
  2. Hi Jon mate, Beautiful crisp morning... Clear sky. Timon
  3. As a large organisation, we have a dedicated team working full time systematically covering all the areas we operate in. Not just for our treework teams but for our charity furniture shops and separate landscaping services as well. Like I said, we invest heavily in this area because it is so effective in providing leads for our businesses. We have found that just covering an area once isn't all that effective. What makes it work so well is repeated coverage of areas so that people recognise the name and branding.
  4. Very fetching!
  5. Definitely flyers ... (And word of mouth of course!!)
  6. 6 days a week. 2 teams. And we do 3 days (30ish) quotes each week. Some days are more work and longer than others. We invest heavily in advertising. We all love the work we do and the fact that our profit goes towards helping people who's lives are a mess turn things round. Our customers like the fact they get a good job done and are helping support a charity at the same time.. Timon
  7. It sucks, mate.. We get it from time to time. There's 'firms' out there working for pittance. I've had potential clients show me written quotes from "competitors"...they must be "employing"people who are claiming benefits. Lone climbers. Etc... The figures don't add up, you couldn't run a bona fide business for these amounts so while there are people operating like that to cut costs this will always happen. Timon

    christmas

I love Christmas. It reminds me to be thankful for the good things I have in my life. Having said that I'd be well cheesed off if I bought a tree that had been cut on the 1st of November.
  10. Thanks for your thoughts and tips guys..,.. Looks like hand filing is the way to go.. Little and often. Thanks Timon

When WAS it you mean?? Roughly 2014 years ago I believe :)
  13. Aquired taste?
  14. Hi Jon .. Do you sharpen on the saw or use a clamp? And what files?? Thanks Timon
  15. Hi Jon..., we possess husky Stihl and Oregon files.... Trouble is we don't use them!!! How do you go about sharpening yours mate... ?? You must do a fair bit.... Any advice ??!!!! Thanks, Timon
  16. Nice one John..... Bucket sounds good. We'll need to up rate the springs on the truck when we take them to the sharpeners :) We will get a bench clamp as well.. Which ones are best?? Thanks Timon
  17. File away the winter evenings would be great! BUT I've got loads of evening commitments along with the other guys so that option is very limited Agreed telly is proper crap... Don't touch the stuff personally.
  18. Any advice regarding a chain sharpening set up in our new workshop would be very welcome. We've just moved all our kit and had a purpose built storage/workshop put together. and would like some advice on what are-the best equipment options available on the market. Because we are so busy with work and have other obligations in the evenings and weekends we have LOTS of spare chains because very often it has been more cost effective just to buy new chains and keep churning the work out. BLUSHING!! What are the best bench set ups , grinders, methods etc that you guys know of that can help us become more efficient (and less wasteful !!) Thanks Timon
  19. Agreed... It qualifies us to start learning. We've already tried and tested some of the methods you mentioned. Eg the traverse line on one of Reg Coates's videos. It helped us learn how to remove cuts straight over a flat roof when there was no access from the back garden. Etc.. Also agree that this forum is a great resource for learning. Thanks Timon
  20. We use slings as well. Quick and user friendly.. We're going on our CS41 in January to learn how to rig correctly and take on bigger jobs.
  21. Hi Jon. Really lovely sunny November day down in Winchester today.. Timon
  22. Hi Mark , That is a fine looking piece. Reminds me a bit of the Dutch style of dining table..... Very chunky. Good work mate... Thanks Timon
  23. One of our guys mistakenly put a steel karibiner through the chipper. Chipped the blades so off they went to be sharpened. We gave him grace... He's a good lad works like a trojan (not the saws) and is very loyal. He was more gutted than I was. These things happen from time to time. The important thing is we learned from it. Docking someone's wages like that would be a last resort after repeated warnings etc... Certainly wouldn't name and shame him on here.
  24. Vauxhall not known for being great vans..... Front wheel drive, gutless etc. never used one myself but never wanted to either. Having said that... what is a good van ??? Transit?? LDV ??
