  1. About £500 ish.... Depending where you go. Ian Morgan ARB is a good place to start. Thanks Timon
  2. I've just passed my LOLER competent person exams. When I asked how can you certify a home splice... I was told you can't because a home splice has no certificate of conformity CE and you can't give it an MBS value. Therefore you can't certify it as PPE fit for use. Also you can't certify it as rigging because you can't calculate an SWL. Does anyone have any accurate info on this ? Thanks Timon
  3. Nice one Paul, Please forgive the quip about the OCD I'm checking my kit later today, I'll post some pics. Have a good day mate..... Timon
  4. An they Tarmaced me livin room noice an cheap.
  5. Thanks guys! We're going to put a roof on the box so the chip doesn't explode everywhere Post pics when it's done. Timon
  6. Like the way you store/display your kit, Paul . Are you OCD?? :) If so can I get some lessons? Thanks Timon
  7. Nice one Ste, hope she lasts. Timon
  8. Just replaced our LDV with this! Hope it serves us well. It has 5 ton springs on the back and full ally box. 2001 model but low mileage .
  9. Hi Mark, I don't tend to use mine much cos it won't self tend until about 25ft and I feel a bit of a div asking the groundie to hold the line tight while I ascend and the line unclips every second thrust On a positive note.... Not using it has helped me lose a stone in weight !!
  10. Haven't had mine long enough to give a "seasoned" review. What I will say is that it is still in one piece and it is much quicker than the 201 we have... I do hear that the new 201 has has been greatly improved though.
  11. I bought a pantin recently but I can't find any where to clip a small biner in. Is it only the old type you can do this on? I'm 13.5. Was 14.5. Three months ago. Thanks Timon
  12. I did my climbing tickets earlier this year. I'm 49. 50 next year and I climb three or four times a week. I (reasonably) expect to be climbing for the next 10 years. Being quite new to climbing I am learning and improving with each climb. As you progress you learn how to be efficient and conserve energy. Hope this helps to encourage you. I've had some really good encouragement From people on here! Never let anyone tell you you are too old!! Timon
  13. Our tree business developed out of our landscaping business. So yes we only do treework. Having said that not every job is a climb/dismantle. We do the odd hedge/shrubbery job to pack the diary.
  14. We run a tree surgery business and landscaping teams. Treework is constant, but landscaping dies off considerably. One of the reasons our treeworks keeps going through the winter (apart from building a good name) is because we invest in advertising.. Thanks Timon
  15. Sorry to hear about this.. Hope you get sorted and recover quickly.. Timon
  16. We just had an ms 261 "die" scored piston etc.. Uneconomic repair. When the Stihl guy came round to give our lot some training he stripped it, diagnosed it and took it away, rebuilt and reconditioned it free of charge! nice one Stihl !! The power of resurrection
  17. Use a mattock "carefully" expose it below ground level. Like shires says criss cross cuts with a saw and chip away at it with a mattock and apply root killer. The biggest danger is damage to the head stones so whoever is using the mattock needs to have a very good eye/swing. I wouldn't worry about unearthing any "remains". They will be much deeper. Hope this helps. A couple of old chains sharpened up would be handy. Sometimes a brush and bucket of water to wash soil/stones off the stump below ground level can preserve the chains a bit longer, otherwise you will blunt them instantly. Hope it goes well. Timon
  18. Definitely worth calling DMM if it's only 3 months old.... Pretty sure they'd replace if faulty.
  19. I found 8mm hitch cord worked well with 13mm main line.
  20. Fair point. I wouldn't like to pay the maintenance costs etc.. on that sort of equipment plus the rest of the expenses. We have our work cut out just keeping on top of our kit. Timon
  21. Sorry to hear that.. Happens far too often. Hope you recover quickly. Timon
  22. Same here. 2 knackered saws later! Thankfully the Stihl guy took one of them and rebuilt it for us free of charge!!
  23. Sounds like a plan... We joined an organisation called NISP: national industrial symbiosis programme. They have helped our organisation save ££££s by providing waste/recycling solutions for our charitable ARB/landscaping/furniture businesses. NISP was a government funded project to turn waste streams into resources. It's now been taken over privately by International Synergies. (Government funding ended, as it does). PM me if you want me to make an introduction for you. Thanks, Timon
  24. Interesting post..... Does that mean that producers of chip i.e tree surgeons, and the yards that process and supply chip will have any influence over the price? Or will companies such as Stobart's have the monopoly over it? In much the same way that supermarkets dictate the price of milk? Thanks, Timon
