    the demon booze

I gave up everything (except caffeine) 8 years ago. I had lots of habits going booze being one of them.... I can honestly say that my life is a thousand times better now. One of the most daunting things about giving up any substance is the thought that we won't be able to find enjoyment in life anymore without it.... It's a lie!! As well as co-running a tree business I also help run a centre for recovering alcoholics and addicts.... Please PM me if you need help or just want a chat. Timon

    Unimog tyres?

Thanks, yeah we run over 30mph too often to run underrated tyres. Besides I don't think they would last too well. Buying cheap is often a false economy...... Nice Mog.

    Unimog tyres?

I think AV charge about a grand each for michelins can't afford the initial outlay for those..... Sadly, 'cos I know they will work out cheapest in the long run. Guess I'll have to go mid range. Thanks for your help guys, I'll admit I have been tempted by cheap AG ones with 30mph rating but I know better than that.. Cutting corners never prospers in the long run ....

    Unimog tyres?

Can anyone tell me the best place to get new tyres for our mog ? Any advice on what kind are the best and any to avoid.. Thanks
  10. Hope all goes well with your chipper, mate. We've got a similar set up (green mech 220 pto ) 1250 mog. We're chuffed to bits with it. It copes with everything we throw at it and is quick.
  11. I've had Stihl hi-flex, sip freedoms and sip progress.... I'd never get hi-flex again....I didn't find them very durable. Sip freedoms were great and very hard wearing . Sip progress even better... durable and comfy. Sip progress get my vote.
  12. Ok.. I'll pm you when we've got it back to our place, send you some photos etc.. Thanks
  13. The tree is still living and I didn't see any obvious decay. It's coming down due to landscaping work. Thanks.
  14. Main stem about 8' It will be difficult for us to keep if that length ... No mechanical handling Thanks
  15. We're taking one down on the 1st August. In Birmingham . Quite a good size.. Think the main stem is about 18" diameter.
  16. From what I've read on this thread I don't fancy getting involved in commercial stuff... The cost of advertising is greater but it's rare that you get bumped doing domestic stuff. Fair play to you guys that navigate those waters .....
  17. Hi 10 bears, Just wanted something to help me with work... Species I.D.... Entry level science... Etc.. Thanks, Ti
  18. Thanks guys.
  19. Can anyone recommend some good books on trees? The science aspect. How it grows? Diseases... Fungi... Etc.. Many thanks Ti
  20. We're in W.Mids so I think there is a lot more competition than Pembrokeshshire. I've worked out what we can charge through trial and error. Winter was booked solid but we only had one truck then. It will be interesting to see how it goes this year. Guys who come to us stay anywhere between 1 hour or decades in some cases. We recommend 12 to 18 months. Some catch hold of the vision and stick around to help build the work and help others to change their lives. I've been with Betel for 8 years now.. It all comes down to how serious the guys are about changing their lives
  21. Hi shires, I aim between £450-£650 for a three man team. That seems to be the going rate round here. Any less we don't cover our costs... Our operation costs are astronomical, Large residential centres. Fleets of vehicles.. Equipment...Heat, light. Insurance. Communications...etc..etc..etc
  22. No our admin dept prints all of our invoices. I hand write the initial quote and give the customer the printed one on completion. Entry to betel is free of charge and residents work in our charitable businesses for free to help pay for their recovery. I came to Betel 8 years ago in a mess and decided to stay and help build the project. Best move I ever made Doubtful that we would ever get into utility side of things. Domestic work suits us best. As far as arb approved goes we just want to be working to good industry standard. Thanks
  23. Our tree firm is a charitable business that provides work and training for recovering addicts. All the proceeds go to provide the finance to run our residential recovery centres. We receive no government or statutory funding and residents don't collect any benefits. We also have landscaping teams and furniture restoration/retail businesses. The tree business in its present form has been going for the last two years. This year we acquired the unimog as a second truck. And two of us passed our 38/39. The others have their 30/31 tickets. We are committed to pursuing excellence in the industry and hope to become arb approved contractors in the not too distant future. Thanks for your interest and encouragement . Timon
  24. Thanks!!
  25. Thanks Steve, Truth is we're building on the foundations that others have laid. Been doing trees for 5 years off and on but climbing 6mths. Thanks for the encouragement. What's more incredible is the fact that both of our teams are manned exclusively by ex-addicts (totally clean) our customers love the fact that the proceeds go to help those in need of a second chance in life. Thanks for a great forum!!! Timon
