  1. Thanks Elliot .... Will check him out.. Ti
  2. Riggerbear, I'll send you some pictures of the mog next week.. The guy that did the work is a genius..., He builds vehicles from scratch... Starts with old chassis cabs and builds mewps, shot blasting units, Truck based pressure washers... Etc... You name it he can build it..., We gave him the mog as soon as we bought it from A/VOS. He checked and sorted all the pipework. Spray coated the chassis and underside etc... Sorted all the mechanical jobs. Service etc and completely welded and reworked the cab.. Bout six times less than A/V would have charged.... But they did us a favour by selling it to us "as is" so we are grateful to them as well. It was the only way we could have afforded it really.. Thanks and have a good weekend! Timon
  3. Thanks Steve , I have found the point where the box goes over too far... As far as I can make out the hydraulic pump only powers up. Next time I see the mechanic I'll ask him about the circuit ...
  4. The box on this mog only has one door and that is on the side.... The cut out was necessary to accommodate the GM Shute. The 3pt link needs to be in down position in order to start it up due to the prop shaft angle. It can't tip with the Shute in the box so it needs to have room to swing out of the box..... Hence the larger cut out on rear... It's seems like shortening the Shute or fabricating a bespoke one is the answer... Will wait until we get new larger one made and design one from scratch. Thanks for all of your help Ti
  5. Rigger Bear.....I said this to our mechanic but he thought the chains could be dangerous .... Not sure quite what he meant tho .... He said risk of toppling the mog..... Not sure. I was just chuffed he did a good job of getting it ready.... Do you remember how rotten the cab was????? Our guy did a cracking job... We will get a new box bespoke made in time...££££ perhaps stick the chipper on the front.... Then crane/mewp on rear and timber trailer..... dream dream!!!!
  6. Hi Steve , Totally agree..... Having bigger kit speeds the job up but takes you into higher maintenance territory... Efficiency is key to being competitive... Being relatively new we're still learning basic stuff (and making schoolboy errors sometimes!!). But we're getting there!! Nice set up you have there!! Thanks ,Timon
  7. Thanks for your comments and advice guys As far as I know light board is not a legal requirement (told by green mech). But is probably a good idea! No hassle from plod yet!! Really hate to take a disc cutter to the new chipper but if it helps ...... Many thanks!!!
  8. Some very good points raised here. What we should get compared to what we end up with can vary a lot.. We do about 30 quotes a week and book about 60-70% of them in the diary.... There are so many "firms" out there working for pittance. It's a fine balancing act to maintain value for ourselves and competing with cheap teams. I've looked at our figures and on average our 3 man teams earn between £450-£650 per truck per day.... Seems to be swings and roundabouts. Sometimes we're forced to do cheaper work just to keep going. We never set out to undercut everyone.... We don't want to de-value the industry. Thanks
  9. I tried the lever every which way to get the bed back down... The problem is the weight of the box itself... Top heavy..It won't return under its own power ..... I also understand that being under an un- propped body is v. Dangerous . Big Joe (pictured) knew the risks when he got up there... And lived to tell the tale!! (This time!!!) I agree and accept responsibility and friendly correction when it is offered. Won't happen again!!
  10. Like I said... The hydraulic ram that lifts the tipper bed "over extends" all the weight of the bed is transferred past the point of no return and the bed won't return. Mechanical assistance from a tractor bucket or similar is needed to pull it back over so it will return. There is no possibility of the bed falling down.. Even if the hydraulics failed or ruptured. Thanks for your concern though....
  11. Unimog tips over full extention and won't pull itself back. Prop not needed
  12. Hi Steve , We've got a mog and pto green mech but we had to open up the hole in the box to accommodate the chipper.... (Previous owner had a different chipper with a more direct feed in.) The velocity out of the chipper is immense..... It blows (forces) dust and chips out of even the tiniest gap in the box! In the fullness of time we will get a box made... This one is a bit rotten underneath but still has some life left. Thanks, Ti
  13. Or maybe 2x cubic meters even.....
  14. Do you find that you can fill the whole box?or at least improve capacity? I think we probably lose about a cubic meter in volume with the air flow blowing the chip back out.... Thanks, Ti
  15. Yeah he is although he's not been too well of late. Knee replacements etc.. Went to watch him with full band at the cinnamon club in May ... He's still got it and the band were really excellent. He'll be chuffed he's got a mention on arb talk! Thanks, Timon
  16. The air flow out of the chipper discharge chute into the box pushes the chips back out of the box once I reach about 3/4 full. If I fitted mesh panels in the roof would that let the air flow "through' rather than back out?? Has anyone ever experimented with something like this on their chip box?? Thanks, Ti
  17. He's my uncle! My mum's older brother.. Seriously small world...... Was it you who dropped the poplar at his house in droylesden? I used to play drums in his band when I was young.., Never thought I'd see him mentioned on this forum! Thanks, Ti
  18. Thanks Tim , Won't get caught like this again Sap/resin is two days old now so hope it comes out! Really enjoyed the tree. Was 60-70ft tall.. Like I said biggest yet. Single bare stem up to about 35ft then curved into two stems straight up. Thanks mate, Ti
  19. Thanks Joe, Looks like it's going to be a couple of cycles then.... It was hard work today (pine was yesterday). Dismantled a small sycamore bout 30ft took ages.... Ended up using a new prussic loop on 4 wraps just to get by... Took about 15 mins before it was solid. Friction savers and inner tubes on the shopping list!! Thanks !
  20. Hi all, Just dismantled a large pine tree (biggest tree we've done to date ) Half way through the day all of my ropes, eye to eyes. Prussics etc... Became solid like they were glued together.. Put my trousers through the washer at 30c and all of the sap is still there Any tips on how to clean my ropes etc...?? Much appreciated!! Thanks, Ti.
  21. Our mog 1250AG. And chipper. 9 inc chipper fills the box in no time. (Only just sussed out how to upload photos!!) Thanks, Ti
  22. Hi Steve , Hope you are well. We're now up and running with our mog and 9" green mech pto.. Fills the chip box on the mog very quickly so working towards a bigger bespoke chip box. Also running an LDV with timber wolf 150. We operate as two separate teams and combine on the larger jobs. (Will post some pics soon) We're working towards becoming arb assoc. approved contractors but it's going to be a journey (more training etc..) Love your set up.... The crane looks very practical. Hope the charity your setting up is going well. All the best mate, Timon
  23. Thanks Joe I'll give this a try next time I go shopping I've used eye2eyes to try and keep it simple. Ti
  24. I tried an extra braid but found it really distorted my main line (using 13mm marlin gecko) If I could get it to perform like the one on my side strop I'd be well chuffed. Perhaps I just need to keep playing about with it and changing the sides it's clipped to the HC. I've got some longer eye to eyes as well (80mm) I'll try those and see.. Can anyone tell me if this is normal to experience niggles with setting up a new system. ???????? Does anyone else have similar experiences???
  25. Thanks guys I'll give it a whirl and let you know how it goes... Makes sense cos the VT on my side strop works a treat!
